Barzal missed much of the year with a broken knee cap but he's a slick play making center who some I've talked to think he's going to be one of the better players taken early in round 1.

I was very happy Sanheim was the pick & have watched his development this year (watching him right now).

Nice. Sounds like just another solid player that could be on the board when we pick.

I really like Marner as well but I doubt he makes it past 7. For some reason I feel like he has Maple Leafs written all over him.

the only reason of my post was to post a knowlegable opinion without getting into a silly internet argument about it. i was purposely choosing my words very carefully.

No worries. I agree with your opinion.

That's why I keep coming back to him as a Flyers pick. He's played great of late, he's a bit of a dark horse, he's a center and he definitely fills a need with his playmaking skills and vision.
- Jsaquella

That is a need but then again so is any forward who is a shoot first player to go along with out pass first forwards group they have now.

So, Mike Milbury suggests that San Jose should send Joe Thornton to the AHL. Despite his NMC, which Milbury acknowledges by saying you can't trade him. Jumbo is currently 4th in the NHL in assists, BTW

Marner would be a nice pick, his size isn't a concern for me as it might be for others. He could be at worst probably a top 6 pick at the moment.

My list of 30 does not include him and a few others because I believe they won't be there when the Flyers pick so no sense is adding them.

True. I still think that if they stay at 8, the pick will be Barzal, Meier or Crouse, if the third one falls to 8, that is.

Like you, I have more than one name at each spot. It would take quite a bit to disappoint me with the picks, much like last year, when we had 6 or 7 names for the 17th pick
- Jsaquella

Unlike last year I don't know if I'll even be able to narrow it down to just that many, but that's never a bad thing when adding via the draft.

Agreed. The more I look at the kids and read what the scouts say, there's so many kids that intrigue me in the class this year. Even going a little off the board, there's still a ton of guys that are legit good looking picks

Much more prep work to get an idea of the amount of prospects this year and not enough time.

We had more lead time last year and a more concrete view of where they would be picking AND who was likely to be there. After McEichel, there's legitimately 4 or 5 guys who could go 3rd. The Flyers could be anywhere from 6-14 and then have yet another 1st rounder, so there's more names to discuss.

Not to be a huge downer because I am excited for the draft but doesn't it seem like they try to hype up these kids more and more each year? A lot of it seems like just trying to sell the draft and nhl as a brand.

It's something good to look forward to in an otherwise meh type season. Hell I'd be looking at adding even more picks if possible but not by moving either of the 1st's.

Looking at how a player is playing, and moving, is an indication of his physical condition. If he's favoring a part of his body, to compensate for pain, it would show up in his game. Especially for a goalie with how he has to move in a game. Criticizing without factual basis behind it, is just criticizing to criticize in my opinion.

There some of that, sure. But that's why you watch the prospects play, form your own opinions and listen to the guys who follwo the leagues for a living

Yeah, not in favor of moving the second first. I like a lot of the guys in the 20-30 range. Unless it gets them an immediate guy who can step in and provide top pair defense help and who is fairly young

Exactly, following a few who follow or cover each of the 3 junior leagues, colleges, & those who put entire scouting books together does help when you can only put so much time into watching all these prospects.

He's claiming he's not 100%.

He's claiming he hasn't had the opportunity to completely heal his knee and that it's not fully healed.

He says he's not pain free after playing again merely 16 days after surgery.

Mason isn't using any "maybes" here. What are the Flyers trying to accomplish except "maybe" to move from the 8th pick to the 12th, and in the process chance complicating Mason's injury issues?

The kid has had a rough 2015 with his back and now his knee. If he's your future, why risk it by keep sending him out there? Why not get a jump on getting him fully healthy for next year? What's the downside - losing a chance to make the PO's this year? Really?

- 77rams

He had part of his meniscus removed, he's never going to be 100%. He's likely never going to be completely without discomfort, as he's missing part of the cushioning between bones in his knee. He's playing because there isn't a risk to him by playing in my opinion. If he was at risk by playing, they wouldn't be playing him. He's playing because there is no downside to playing him.

On top of that, most of those guys will answer questions. I know you and I have shot questions to these guys and got further information and insight on the prospects available.

Hell, one contacted the Oshawa Generals to get the face off % for Laughton every month last season for me.
