No, I more mean Hanifin Vs Strome Vs Provorov Vs Marner. All seem to be ranked right around that mark and all bring valuable skill sets, but all have certain questions worth asking.
If we get the 3rd pick, it's mostly between these two:
Hanifin is a safe bet to be an NHL defender, but does he have that elite offensive level or any snarl to his game when he hits pro. Erik Johnson produced comparably in hi draft year +1 so perhaps his "lack of elite offense" is a touch overblown.
Strome has size and skill but how much is playing with McDavid boosting his offensive totals? Hard to argue McDavid hasn't had an impact, but I have a hard time discrediting him for it as he maintained a high level of play when Connor was out.
But if we drop to 4th, or even 5th (if the team suddenly wins a bunch of games) then these guys come into the picture:
Provorov has all the tools to become an elite Dman along with a dynamic element that Hanifin seems to be lacking and seems to be climbing the rankings to the point where he may be able to contend for a top-5 selection.
Marner is ridiculously skilled and tenacious (compared to Giroux and Kane), but this would mean drafting another small forward.
I mean, I naturally lean towards drafting a Dman, but having read around a lot, the Oiler fanbase seems awfully divided for what should be a much easier decision IMO. - MaximumBone
Pronman said that he heard the Oilers were coveting Marner over even Hanifin at the 3 spot. I hope it's not true as I want a defenseman but it almost seems like there is no wrong, pick to a degree. |

Fabbri went 23rd I think, that was a miss by them but they usually get the vast majority of the Top 10 picks in somewhat of the order that is similar to how the draft unfolds, but I think any of of us could name 8 out of the top 10 picks this year based off of all the information out there. - DDM-Coga

Amen sir! I have been to busy to post on here much at all lately. So last night I come on here and see how he is hating on male nurses and bragging about how impressive it is that he has some sort of snow removal company and could not stop laughing. It is just sad in this day and age to see someone rip on some for having a job as a male nurse. You just come off as a pathetic bigot. - NEONDOUBLEDION

I was a fan of Purcell but his game is seriously lacking at this point in his career. I wonder if the Oilers might try moving him and retaining half his salary in a cap dump trade. Something along the lines of a Purcell + Pittsburgh's 1st for Loui Eriksson and a prospect? - Dangles13
Becel has been a disappointment all season really- he added a few goals which I did not really expect from him which made many accept him... But FFS I know we picked him up for his size- and that he simply is inept to use - I too fear once his goals dry up- he brings sweet (frank) all to the table or to this team and will be subject to scruitiny for being an expensive 4th line winger |

I'd assume oiler management will do their due diligence, whereas I have the luxury of being abit more matter of fact.
marner 's not even an option for me should any of hanifin, strome or provorov be available at our pick (which is almost 100%)
As far as hanifin goes, he doesn't play a mean aggressive game, but he doesn't need to.
he's positionally sound and more talented than most.
and I'm not sure where his talent level came into question (I think I heard button say he doesn't have a big offensive upside-23 pts in 36 games as a rookie freshman in a defensive league.)
He's a fantastic skater and can carry and move the puck.
his ceiling is through the roof imo.
I like strome if hanifin gone. But he's redundant if not imo |

Not just Button. His passing game and IQ is through the roof, it's simply his shot and seeming lack of aggressive offensive tendencies that I think are the root cause for the concerns. I think it's a lot of needlessly picking holes, but it's still important to take into account. My only "issues" (and I'd hardly call them "issues") with drafting Hanifin, is that:
A.) I lean more towards the dynamic skill set that a guy like Provorov offers as we already have two safe-style NHL defenders in Klefbom, Fayne and Marincin and a crop full of lesser "safe" prospects in Oesterle, Simpson, Davidson, Musil, etc. As for dynamic qualities we have Nurse and Schultz.
B.) I know that the WHL is a tougher league to score than either the OHL or QMJHL so I feel more confident that Ivan's scoring will translate to the pros. However, my relative ignorance of the nuanced differences in scoring in all the college leagues is where questions about Hanifin arise from.
As of now, I kinda see Hanifin as a step above Erik Johnson while I see the potential for Provorov to hit even higher. I'm likely overthinking this, but I'm a sucker for dynamic hockey. I guess it comes down to if we draft at 3 or 4 for me. Either way, I pick a Dman. |

nothing against Marner as the guy can clearly light it up offensively, but I wouldn't consider him being the most important selection for the club. |

Looks like a repeat of Ekblad!
But no, he genuinely seems like a safe bet for an elite skating at least top-3 Dman that plays a pass-first game. Let's say Schultz with good positioning and a defensive conscience? Nothing wrong with that I just like Provorov's game.

So, with HA in the hospital, we should all get together and get a stripper to visit him.
And by that I mean Rutts should dress up in a nurse outfit and go put on a show for him. |
