Correction, Burke has been given permission to seek a management job, not necessarily any open spot. Maybe the Flyers toss him an assistant GM title/goaltending coordinator gig, if interested. - Jsaquella
Yeah, doubt he wants to move laterally into another goalie coach position.
Hopefully it's a sign that ARI is prepared to clean house... TIPPEETTTTTTT! |

Edited.
It's little difference. Buying him out this summer only an extra year of dead cap around 880k. That's peanuts and not worth the headache of keeping him around if a coach had no use for him - Just5
It is worth it if they don't need the cap space to do anything. I don't see it being a big headache either.

On Tippet. Are people speculating he's going to get canned this summer? |

Didn't he extend, even knowing that they were tearing it down?

If he still truly thinks he can play, he'd take the risk, right?
But somehow, I have a feeling that Wheels knows the truth - AllInForFlyers
If he thinks the Flyers are desperate enough to use a buyout on him, why walk away from the cash? |

That's what I thought. Everyone is talking about bringing Tippett aboard (which I'm 100% for), but I think he signed an extension not to long ago.

Yes, because of how bad the team has been, combined with new ownership. Now Burke is being allowed to seek other employment... |

Yes, they can. Both sides agree to mutually terminate, Vinny goes on unconditional waivers or maybe he can refuse those with his NMC, and his deal gets ripped up. Of course that means Lecavalier would decide to walk away from about $8mm with no guarantee of getting another job - Jsaquella
More like 10.5 mil. Bad risk for Vinny if you ask me. |

The team is out of the playoffs. They better have roster spots!!!!
That was my complaint from training camp this season. - mayorofangrytown
I will absolutely (frank)ing snap -- well, even more than usual -- if the roster that breaks camp in the fall looks a lot like this one
Just because they can't do everything doesn't mean they shouldn't do anything |

What if a coaching candidate doesn't want umberger/vinny on the roster? |

Yeah, 5-year extension in summer 2013. He's tight w/ Maloney, but Don's gonna can Tippett before he puts his own job at risk w/ the new ownership. |

Would love to bring him in in a big market environment. He's coached Dallas and Phoenix. It's possible he's ready for a bigger challenge in a tougher market |

To me, you'd have to be stone-cold insane to take the Flyers job over the summer knowing that the last guy got turfed with the same roster, especially if you are a good coach with other options

I would be curious if Hextall will bring that up. Tell him there is no trade out there and also he won't be playing so most likely be a scratch. If they can agree to terminate the contract he has a better chance of finding a team since they won't have to give up any assets. Just some money. |

Oh well, deal with it. Every coach doesn't get his perfect ideal roster.

If Tippett gets the gate down there, that just goes to show you that coaches should absolutely expect some help from the GM
Because if it's all about wins and losses, then I'd be like, "Don't give me a poopty roster, tell me that there's a plan in place, but then give me the gears because I didn't turn your crap into the 1976 Canadiens"

Yeah, I looked at the salary due, not bonuses, walking away from $10.5mm? Doubt it. |

He is also getting the cash from his Lightning buyout, s he's not exactly hurting.
But yeah, why walk away from $10.5mm, when you can recoup 2/3rds of it with the same level of commitment on your own side of things? |

If that's the case, and I'm Vinny's agent, I ask them to buy him out. They can't send him home, but Vinny could become a real pain in the ass if they want to play hardball with him |

He's a good coach and he's not married to a single style of play. He gets his teams to play good defense, but when he's had star players, they get enough room to thrive and produce, too. |

Reports out of Finland that Ilya Kovalchuk wants to return to NHL by 2016-17.

Not only would I consider picking him up, I think we need to at least think about it depend on whereis in his ccareer but no comments, much like Jagr but much younger. |
