Richards is way overrated. If he wasn't a Flyer we wouldn't have to read this poop. How about another article about how great Ryan Callahan is, another overrated, overpaid 3rd liner at best

Sure.....theres so many idiotic contracts out there....Richards was/is in the AHL because he cant live up to the cap hit....unless he reinvents his game or fitness level or whatever it is that is slowing him down there is no way he doesnt get bought out before that deal expires....unless we have expansion again and he goes in the draft.
- Jeropotato

The Kings save 1m sending him down, same as with any player. That's not why he was demoted.

Yeah you have to give him lots of credit. It takes a strong human being to play in the minors and collect millions of dollars. That's a rare breed right there

266 NHL games and I think it's fair to start making judgments on a player.

He is an average, middle-6 NHL player. There isn't a thing in the world wrong with that. But he certainly did not pan out to be the high-level player that many expected him to be.

He bascically has the same number of points that Richards has since the trade.

The Army Corps of Engineers has been dredging sand from Hermosa Beach to held combat the erosion of Mike Richards skills. The Richards restoration project is nearing completion. The real challenge will be restoring the decimated piping plover population.

Thanks Ek. I believe Richards was given a raw deal in Philly. First, he's made Captain, then given a good (for him) contract, and later shown the door. If the Flyers were so concerned about his maturity, then why did they give him, a young player, so much money for that length of time? Sure, he has to shoulder some of the blame, but not all of it. For example, see how the Flyers handled Lindros. In addition, a player who plays Richards style of play usually burns out quickly. If he wants to stay in the league, he has to change his style of play, and accept a reduced role. To blame him for his salary expense is not his fault; who wouldn't take that money? The dumb management decision to pay him, and sign him for the rest of his career, is what is to blame. At the time, the GMs across the league were handing out contracts like candy. When the owners decided on a cap, that is what teams got stuck with. There was no grandfather clause, or slow adjustment, it was just cut, and dry. Just look at some of NJ's contracts, and Toronto. In addition, the players demanded more money, however they didn't think of the consequences of doing so. Now, the NHL wants to expand? Seriously? Where do you think these players are going to come from? Do you want a watered down game with shoot outs, or do you want a quality product. Like they say, "Greed is good." Nope.

You're wrong. Richards did nothing to earn a call up. Stoll is Hurt. That is all. Richards in the line up slows everyone down. Goodbye Playoffs.
