It is. And their chief operating officer mentioned both players by name multiple times publicly, and the franchise hosted both players in their own building conveniently in the same season that they are hoping to draft them. They've been the furthest thing from subtle about it. I don't care that they are doing this. We all know they should be doing this. They also should just own it and stop insulting everybody's intelligence.

Yeah I heard the COO has been a bit loose lipped, but this is business. You never talk, you never tip your hand. Ever. Never admit wrong doing

Then at the very least stop acting shocked that most of the rest of the hockey world is sour about it. The Sabres brought this bad publicity upon themselves. Will it matter in the end? Probably not, but I have to laugh when they compare themselves to Pittsburgh or Chicago. Nobody rips on them because they were subtle about it. The Sabres have been everything but.

So what? You think the New England Patriots give a dam that everyone thinks they cheat? No, they're too busy enjoying Super Bowl wins.

Neither Pittsburgh nor Chicago were this public about it, either. That's what's rubbing people the wrong way.

True, but if twitter and endless blogs were around back then, it would have been gotten more attention

So my brother in law and I were setting rules for the wives in the event the Sabres win the cup. We are leaving and are to be totally off the hook for 14 hours. Presumably we watch the game at my in laws place in North Buffalo, if they win, steal a shopping cart, line it with plastic, fill with beer and ice and start heading up Elmwood. Everything else from there is a bud light 'Whatever' commercial.

You did mean 14 days, right?

Because that's what it would take for me if this hockey team won it all. Either that, or I would probably stroke out.

Is it better (or worse) to cheer for your team to lose openly, or, to throw a jersey on the ice? It is a toss up for me. I understand it, somewhat, but it is also disrespectful to the players trying their best in a handicapped and unsolicited situation. And, not to be trolling, but I would not be shocked if Bettman still causes Arizona to pick first and a team like Carolina picking 2nd. Which would then be a much worse look.

I also think it is bullcrap for the fans who paid to watch the team and not cheer for them to lose. It is just interesting how few seem to see how rare this is. Pretty unprecedented behavior, and if the Sabres do end up picking 3rd, not sure how this is ever forgotten. Hopefully they pick 1st and it will just be a blip. It is just something I Would never do. It wasn't the players fault they traded for 2 AHL goalies.

Don't be confused, we didn't boo our team. When we last boo'ed our team they had Ryan Miller, Steve Ott, Thomas Vanek and others. That group earned it. And they got all butthurt over it. Our fans were simply cheering the result. Send 10,000 Sabres fans to Carolina vs. Arizona, we're going to cheer a positive result for Arizona. It's the situation we are in.

This!!
No one knows what the hell we have been through for 2 years, and actually beyond that.
So, whatever other team's fans opinions are, I really do not care!!!
This is all for the greater cause, which is winning the CUP!

Booing is perfectly acceptable. I just feel really bad for the guys who are in the uniform now. Also, I would 1000x prefer Buffalo to get the top pick over Arizona or Carolina or other moribund franchises. Yet, if Bettman does what he often does, this will come back to be a black mark on a franchise that has suffered quite enough. Apologies for the word choice, but I can't think of a parallel outside of my beloved Eagle fans booing Santa Claus and cheering Michael Irvin's career ending neck injury.

I've told the wife that if the Sabres or Bills are ever champs that I'll be going up to Buffalo for the parties.

Booing isn't currently applicable in our situation. You have to have expectations and then be let down to want to boo.

You'd be in town before the game was played I"m sure. The interstate up from the Carolina's would be all people from Buffalo.

Just saw an article on Yahoo expanding on something Craig Custance wrote about how GMs would like to be able to have a rule change so players aren't draft eligible until they're 20.

Thoughts?

I would have to imagine both the NCAA and CHL would love that.

I hope that never come into fruition.
That is like trying to control what players want to accomplish in their sports lives.

I'm torn on this.

The positive is, or should be, that scouting would be much less of a crap shoot, because you'd get a better feel on how a player would turn out as a pro.

The downside is you'd see less players in the AHL, unless they changed those rules, and the AHL talent would drop like a ton of bricks. Teams may fold, because in theory you'd have more players making a direct jump from Jr or college, and the AHL teams would suffer for it, meaning less entertaining games, meaning less fans.

Just my thought.
