So with Edmonton's win tonight the Sabres would need to go at least 5-3 to catch them. It's safe to rule them out now I'd say. It's (all but) officially a 2 team race. |

I hope that never come into fruition.
That is like trying to control what players want to accomplish in their sports lives. - Sabresfan88
That is terrible. As soon as you're out of HS you should be able to be a pro if you're good enough. Seriously why force young players to play with amateurs if they are good enough to play pro? Doesn't make any sense.

Anyone watch the BU game? Eichel did not standout out at all... I know he had the game winning assist but thats about it.
I'm afraid that The gap between McDavid and Eichel is much bigger than the game between Eichel and Strome. Eichel does have elite speed and is the perfect size though. |

Just saw an article on Yahoo expanding on something Craig Custance wrote about how GMs would like to be able to have a rule change so players aren't draft eligible until they're 20.
Thoughts? - stashu
My guess is the Euro's dream to play in the NHL will fade a bit, and the quality of the game will diminish a tad
a better solution is to allow 18/19 year olds to play in the AHL once drafted |

Is it better (or worse) to cheer for your team to lose openly, or, to throw a jersey on the ice? It is a toss up for me. I understand it, somewhat, but it is also disrespectful to the players trying their best in a handicapped and unsolicited situation. And, not to be trolling, but I would not be shocked if Bettman still causes Arizona to pick first and a team like Carolina picking 2nd. Which would then be a much worse look.
I also think it is bullcrap for the fans who paid to watch the team and not cheer for them to lose. It is just interesting how few seem to see how rare this is. Pretty unprecedented behavior, and if the Sabres do end up picking 3rd, not sure how this is ever forgotten. Hopefully they pick 1st and it will just be a blip. It is just something I Would never do. It wasn't the players fault they traded for 2 AHL goalies. - FLflames34
There is always going to be a bottom team, not every team can make into the playoffs or win the Stanley Cup, so you can think what you want about it. The loyal Sabres fans are sick of being stuck in mediocrity, they have the sense to know what is going on. Buffalo have decided like many teams in the past to rebuild their roster. Do you have any idea what it costs in draft picks/assets to move up to near the 1st pick in the draft ? Can't be done.
This is being WAY blown out of proportion by the media and bloggers who are way more involved in hockey. The Sabres fans have season tickets and are turning up in agreement with the process, who gives a poop what anyone else thinks.
At the end of the day if it doesn't work it won't be any different to the last X years.
And don't worry most of us think puck 1 has already been decided.

I am a sabers fan and have been for many years. I live in Tampa, Fl now but will never give up on the Sabers.
I read this article and understand the feelings from the fans and the players. I don't get to watch many Buffalo games but I track the games on a sports app. I loved the game with Arizona. From what I could tell Buffalo players were playing with heart. I don't care if they end up in last but I do care that the team plays with heart. As a Buffalo fan, I am sick of saying "maybe next year". But really, maybe next year. Lets go Buffalo! |

I can definitely see the Sabres going 5-3 down the stretch. We have the easiest schedule by far compared to the Coyotes and Oilers. We have such hapless teams such as Arizona, Colorado, Toronto, Carolina and Columbus yet to face. Compare that to Arizona and Edmonton who play the top teams/teams fighting for a playoff spot here on out. You know Theodore Nolan will have the guys fired up to play the rest of the way. He will use the fans cheering for Arizona as motivation. I think we will easily get 3 wins. Wouldn't be shocked to see 5 or 6 though. Still 16 points on the table. This is FAR from over. |

It takes a team and the whole BU team was flat (like the Sabres) for 2 periods.

I view it as the vanek situation, not that he is vanek
when briere and drury left, the team would really only have to focus on the vanek line
a lot of that is going on vs BU, which is magnified when it's do or die
just my 2 cents

So what was the case with the World Juniors? When the games started to matter, he was nowhere to be found. That soured me on him a bit. Don't get me wrong. If the Sabres end up with him, they'll be a fun team to watch and in the conversation. But dammit do I want Connor McDavid badly. |
