is 14 games enough to write him off?
- Sabresfan-365

No, not necessarily, but to hang on putting him in as part of the deal as a mistake is a bit warped.

Before we get into a whole Jet debate.

The point is that there is no need to rush Grigorenko out the door, or the other 1st round pick. Our best player will be 18, plan for 2 years down the road. Don't jump to trade more picks and prospects to make a run next year.

Who cares if Grigo busts? Let him do that here then, Murray has no problem burning through assets like they are monopoly pieces, so what's the rush to get something for him.

- sbroads24

Yes. I'm okay with making a trade like WPG one. But we don't need to make a second and third one like that. Let's see how some of our guys develop.

Well, with regard to Grigorenko if Murray projects him to be a less than stellar player and they get McEichel, Reinhart, and Girgensons where does Grigerenko play down the middle? If another team thinks higher of him and offers a winger around the same age why not trade him? They strengthen an area of weakness from an area of strength, the way trades are often made. Just because Grigerenko is a prospect drafted from a previous regime doesn't mean they have to keep him for posterity.

Yes, and Murray's projection could also be dead wrong. Let it play out. Give him next year with talented NHL players. If it doesn't work out oh well, if it does and he's a 40-50 point player next year, then you really have an asset to work with come time to make trades

This makes a lot of sense. I think gringo has a ton of potential, but if we can use his strentgths at center to acquire a high end natural RW, I'm down.

Yea, Grigorenko ++ might get you a high end winger right now.

That's my point, why trade these players at their low point in terms of value? Let it play out and see what surfaces and what doesn't.

Going for a quick payoff will backfire in Murray's face

But if Grigorenko flat lines next year you won't even be able to include him in a package for a high end winger.

It's risky either way. That's where you gotta trust that the guy in charge knows what he's doing

Then substitute Grigo with a token 2nd round pick and it's the same thing.

Mikhail Grigorenko isn't the sticking point in any trade for any actual NHL top 6 winger

I think if they get McDavid or Eichel he's a gonner so enjoy the last 8 games he'll be in a Sabres uniform over the next two weeks. The writer who covers the Amerks for the Rochester D&C thinks he'll be dealt leading up to the draft too. You will probably fuming with Murray then too.

Armia was 22. his value was going to start to go down.

I don't doubt he might be moved. And it will be an underwhelming return or part of a package to get a player.

One of these times Murray is going to get burned....bit time. Actually after watching Bogosian play last night I think he might have already

I just hope Murray doesn't sell the farm to get ROR that he is infatuated with.
Let Colorado sweat a bit next year...he won't resign, rather he will squeeze the Avs for the max payout.
Let him go to FA...if we get him great, but I wouldn't bankrupt the team for him.

I know. He was sold at a low point. Bad asset management.

low point would've been trading him last year when he was "statistically" struggling. He was having a very good season in the AHL before they dealt him.

I can't believe you are debating Joel Armia being in that trade but whatever.

It's not any one of them individually. It's collectively. It's the whole point the other poster and I are making, the Jets trade happened, fine Murray got his guy, but doing it 2 and 3 times is a bad idea

if Grigo could get you a nice looking winger on his own, sure go for it

Im still thinking that was a one off. He saw a situation where he could get someone he really liked without effecting the tank.

I'm hoping. I don't mind him being bold or making moves, but he shouldn't rid us of all the organizational depth we have acquired over the past two years to get 1 or 2 guys that are pretty good.

There will be another Filip Forsberg trade. Let's just not have it be us

I don't think it's even possible to rid ourselves of all our organizational depth.
And he did state he wanted a quick rebuild...2 drafts. Part of his plan is to use assets to fast track the rebuild. But I don't think he has any plans to trade everything away.
We also need several layers of depth....juniors, college and rochester. As players leave, more come up. I think we're in pretty good shape when it comes to that aspect.
Murray even acquired future picks at the deadline to ensure a re stocking of the cupboard. Verdict is still out, but I think he knows what he is doing. I can definitely see him going after at least one current NHL player this summer or at the draft.

I admit the O'Reilly stuff has me nervous. Im sure he's got pressure from above to turn this around quick.

So that means he's a bust because of one rough stretch after getting traded? By that logic, the Jets robbed us based on what Myers and Stafford have done

Ennis did some passing and stick handling drills with the coaches and a little bit of skating. Ennis said, “It was good to get out there, it felt nice and I’m feeling better each day.”

Ennis sustained a shoulder injury and did not shoot while he was out there. I was thinking that would pretty much eliminate playing Monday. Ennis said, “I’ll see what tomorrow brings, but I wanted to get out there and feel the ice, skate around and work on some skills.”

Personally I don't think he's pressured at all.

I think his scout 1st mentality might get him in trouble. He falls in love with certain players like most scouts do and will do anything to get them. There needs to he a business and scout mentality in a GM. Hopefully he has that
