I was trying to think of a comparison. The McSorely/Simon attacks happened in the heat of the moment, so did the Boulerice incidents (plural). The only comparable thing that I can think of was the Domi sucker punch on Ulfie, but I don't think that even works. - jmatchett383
Slap Shot is the comparison. |

That was a straight up assault that had nothing to do with game action. |

Berube is likely gone.
No way is this franchise winning the lottery and finding a sucker to take Vinny all in the same summer. That sort of luck is for franchises that threaten to move out of town or are close to insolvent. - johndewar
The Flyers will fire Berube, win the lottery, and trade the 1st overall pick along with Vinny for the second selection. |

The Flyers will fire Berube, hire Stevens, re-trade Carter, and see a Vinny resurgence.
Also, I cannot confirm or deny drinking at work. |

At what point do they rehire Berube and insert Riley Cote into the lineup? |

Looked up original tweet from Mirtle, he says it's sorted by a combination of points and ice time - Jsaquella
It's crap then because the magical number used for sorting is missing. |

Holy poop! That's crazy. That dude's a lunatic. - jmatchett383
I heard an interview with the guy and he said that the player he attacked hit him from behind earlier in the schedule and that he was still experiencing concussion symptoms. He said he hit him on the shin pads and that he's sure he'll get worse punishment than the other guy got for running him from behind (nothing). The player he attacked wasn't hurt and both players played in the game.
Not that any of that makes it right. Just sharing. |

I'll give you Lauridsen. Still, unless there is a reason that does not allow them to do it, I'd rather have one of Alt/Hagg playing over Coliacovo. It's not exactly like our defense overall has been good at the NHL level, and I'd rather they let a few guys who may one day be in the lineup get a taste over a guy who, in almost all cases, won't be back next year. - jmatchett383
Giving young players a taste at the end of a season, is highly overrated. If a player in the AHL is a viable prospect, at some point he's going to get a taste on a call up. Play the players you have, finish out the string, and leave the players in the minors who aren't ready for the NHL, in the minors. Not to mention the cap implications. All in my opinion.

Agreed, the Flyers have everything to gain and nothing to lose by playing guys like Coliacovo for the rest of the year. |

Pretty much a spot on blog by Bill.
I have said the same thing about Couturier and B Schenn all year.
Based on play neither one is untouchable.
You can give Couturier Voracek and Simmonds and it won't have anything to do with what Couturier does on a breakaway or a 1 timer. His offensive instincts this season simply aren't there. Probably a good part of that is confidence.
Take the above, replace Couturier with Schenn and repeat. |

It's more about what do they have to gain or lose by playing Haag over Colaiacovo, that's more relevant. |

I'm not concerned about breakaways and 1 timers with Couturier. Not really a big part of his game, regardless of how well he plays. I think Couturier's big issue is he lacks confidence with the puck, and is hesitant. If he played all season with players like Simmonds and Voracek, if the chemistry is there, you can never tell until they play, I would bet he'd be a more confident player with the puck. Better linemates and better situations would lead to more opportunity, and more confidence. Instinct doesn't go away, it just gets masked by a lack of confidence and thinking instead of just reacting and using those instincts.

Im concerned with breakaways and 1 timers considering many of the chances he missed this season were just that. Some players just don't translate what they did in juniors or minors to the NHL.
Im all for putting him in the ideal solution next season and stacking the lines to try and gain him some confidence. It makes sense to me that that the lack of output they are both having comes down to lack of confidence probably not helped by the coach moving them around or constantly changing wingers.
I would still move either Couturier or Schenn if I thought it would make the team better.

Over the course of 70+ games, he hasn't had that many breakaways or one timers. Couturier is not ever going to be a player, who is going to score a bunch of goals on one timers, nor is he a particularly fast player who is going to get behind the defense a lot for breakaways. That's not his game.
Couturier was a top scorer in Juniors. I don't think anyone expects him to be a top scorer in the NHL.
I would trade Giroux or Voracek if I thought it would make the team better.

Voracek just is on another level when they dropped him to coots line. Coots just couldn't keep up |
