It is I just don't think as highly as either Couturier potential as you do. It's already clear you don't think much of Schenn's potential.

- opeth_pa

I don't know where you're getting that from. I think Schenn still has the potential to be a very good player.

Again, I don't think Couturier or Schenn's offensive upside will ever equal Simmonds, no do I think their physical play will equal Simmonds. I prefer what Simmonds brings to what I think either Couturier or Schenn will bring. You dont, again hopefully both Couturier and Schenn have productive seasons next year and we can talk about how good it is to have two solid young players.

Couturier's offense doesn't have to equal Simmonds. Far more to the game then just goal scoring. With Couturier's strong defensive game, if he becomes a 20 goal, 50 point 2nd line center, that would make him a better player, and a more valuable player then Simmonds is, because of how good he is defensively. Not to mention that center is a more important position the wing.

As much as you keep pointing out potential I have not once said that I think Couturier or Schenn have hit their potential. You seem convinced that Schenn has and Couturier is some force waiting to break out assuming he gets perfect linemates.

I dont agree with either.

You've labeled Couturier multiple times as being a borderline 2nd, but mostly a 3rd line center. Also stated you'd be open to trading him based on his current offensive output. That is clearly defining the player. I haven't once stated that I think Schenn has reached his full potential. What statements specifically, have I made on Schenn, that leads you to believe that?

I wouldn't be suprised if one of 10 or 14 are gone. You mentioned there is more to scoring .. Which you are correct. While Couturier brings the " defense" to his game, Simmonds is a top power forward in the game and that is also hard to come by. He does more than score scores. If I had a choice to trade one of them.. It wouldnt be Simmonds.I like Couturier but his production this year is that of a 3rd line centre.

It's more about what do they have to gain or lose by playing Haag over Colaiacovo, that's more relevant.

I think you will be hardpressed to find someone who disagrees with that last comment. He didnt have the year we all hoped, but that doesnt mean he is not an integral part of this team. Couts is a 22 year-old forward playing a role most guys spend years in the NHL evolving to take on. Very few players are playing that role successfully at his age... with maybe a few exceptions.

His offense hasnt been there... It is frustrating for sure. BUT he also is not inept. I want to see him be more of an offensive catalyst. Drive the play, go hard to the net, and use his shot. I think most of those things are confidence based. When you lack confidence you tend to struggle to find the scoring areas. You tend to pass up good scoring chances. You often end up anywhere but near the front of the net. Bill said it best yesterday when he talked about a scorers mentality... I think Couts absolutely has that ability, but he needs that mentality as well. Sometimes its just a matter of time.
