I would say AV doesn't trust McIlrath, kind of like he did to Miller for awhile, but I don't think AV even has a say in this really. It's the coaching staff in Hartford. If McIlrath was tearing it up in the AHL I think the coaching staff in Hartford would let AV know.

Apparently he's their best defender. But think of the defenseman that have missed time this season. Boyle, Mcdonagh and Klein. Mcilrath got one sniff at showing what he could do, it didn't go very well. Forget about the goal Tarasenko burned him on. He also took dumb penalties.

Hard to say this, but Hank (the Rangers) need to win this game tonight, or its 4 losses in 5 games & Hank could use a confidence boost. Yes, it would only be 2 games if he lost, but there aren't too many more games before the playoffs start.

I wish he'd start to solidify himself as a NHLer. In fact, I'd rather see him up here making mistakes than seeing the mistakes the entire defensive core has been making recently. But the fact is he's to slow to keep up in the league.

When he was drafted I'd hope he'd turn into a Douglas Murray/Dan Girardi hybrid. A tough, yet smart physical defenseman with with average skating ability that could eat minutes on the PK. Idk if he'll even turn into that now.

Just look at Lindberg though. Older, drafted a year before him, played professional hockey for years longer, but we still tout him as a bonafide NHLer. Plus he's a forward and forwards develop quicker.

Gormley was drafted the same year as McIlrath and is only now making an impact and that's because the Yotes have no depth. But gormley is still highly touted and a good player. Boychuk and Klein didn't make the NHL until their mid-20s.

Again I hopes he makes it. But with the Rangers 2nd round pick this year I want a RHS defenseman drafted just in case.
