Hit was clean in form. You can argue all day about the lateness of the hit, but the reality is it wasn't that late. We've all seen and will see hundreds of hits that are later than that on dmen moving the puck. I don't think it's fair to punish somebody for the result of a hit if the action itself was clean. - vertigo1061
2 things... 1) please define what a late hit is? 2) Is that definition consistent with the Doan hit ? This should be amusing my fellow pens fans
Does the intent of the player matter? or is it if the player got hurt? or is it the name on the back of the players jersey? or is it the situation? NHL discipline makes zero sense??? This is not a Penguins issue... its a league issue |

Yet, Bortz got a 2 game suspension for a similar type hit, but not nearly as violent. Like I have said from the start, the NHL is so inconsistent with its suspensions, its a joke. What is suspend-able one game, isn't even called a penalty in another, that is the problem I have. |

1) I said you could argue the lateness not that it was late. He had the puck and Doan finished his check. I would say between 2-3 seconds (closer to 3, I think) personally is about the limit of what I would consider reasonable. Just watch playoff hockey and count sometimes the time after a dman moves the puck to when a hit is made.
2) Yes. The Doan/Letang hit was under 2 seconds.

Intersting... according to the NHL rule book ... The NHL" considers anything More than a Half Second late." Even if was just under 2 seconds as you say... according to the rule book your definition does not match the NHL's...
If you commit a hit and your name is Ovie or Shane Doan and the opposition player gets hurt nothing happens... If you commit a late hit and your not a star player resulting in injury you get suspended and fined... We ve seen ovie.. lauch himself at dan girardi in the playoffs and intentionally (many believe) go knee on knee with Gonchar ... No punishments ... logic? |

Star players always get away with a little more. In every sport. That's nothing new. That said, anybody who has played hockey will tell you refs let you finish your check. That's pretty much a constant at every level. The 'lateness' is almost always ref determined. But that's true with most things. How much stick play is allowed or clutch/grab. Written rules be damned lol. Refs are little czars on the ice. |

Fair enough... however there is a big difference between .5 seconds and 2-3 seconds... and 2. Letang is a star player |

Because when Byfuglien x-checked Miller, Penguin fans on HB brought up Staal-Crosby. You bring this all on yourself. Letang doing douchey things vs Detroit, getting 22pim on one play, hockey gods repay him with Doan hit. Is it fair no, but balance is justice.

How do I bring on myself what a Penguins player does? Nobody I know on here is lacing up skates for the Pens orginization.
Of course we all know a Columbus Blue Jacket has never laid a dirty hit on anyone. Maybe the fact that the Blue Jackets are irrelevant once again is the hockey gods speaking. Are the Blue Jackets even popular enough to have you tube videos? A full time blogger? More than 6 Hockey Buzz posters? |

Wow, whine much? Brought it up last time, ill bring it up again. You all vehemently defended "blindside" Brooks Orpik when he tried to end Erikssons career... How exactly was that a necessary hit and this one isn't?
All fans tend to be hypocritical when its their player on the ice... But you guys take the cake. |

Unless you spoke out against the Zdeno Chara hit on Pacioretty then you are no better than the people you are criticizing. |

Pouliot is such a liability down low in the defensive zone. He isn't large or physical enough and his stick work still isn't developed. |

It wouldn't be a proper Penguins game without a critical injury. |

I'm so disinterested in the makeup of this team at the moment that if not for the Perron trade of this years 1st I almost wish the Penguins would collapse and miss the playoffs
We'd get
1) a 1% chance at McDavid, if not, a top 15 pick
2) Johnston would be so fired he'd have 3rd degree scarring on his way out the door
3) Rutherford may also get the axe, perhaps enticing Babcock to come here with some GM authority
4) Massive roster purge hopefully leading the Sutters of the team getting shipped out for a few pucks
5) a 2-3 year retool under Babcock resulting better long term outlook |

If this was a "name on the jersey" issue, why exactly would the NHL choose to side with the old vet from a non existent hockey market over the Norris candidate from a large hockey market? Thats a terrible argument - Shaundre93
No No... the point is there is nor logic or reason to NHL justice... Its plagued by inconsistency |

I don't think Rutherford will be fired regardless of what happens at this point. And I doubt Rutherford will be firing Johnston either. And I am confident ownership will not endorse doing a 2-3 year retool under any circumstances. |
