January 2015 is in the books in my game, for any interested:

The tank is tough...Kane and Gorges are about to be healthy, I'm considering picking up Bickell from waivers...ugh.

The problem with games is the computer makes dumb moves. I remember playing EA, signing players off the UFA list only to trade them and watch the computer waive them them moment the trade was done.

I think where this came from should be cleared up "The top athletes in the US"

I understand it's relative when you get into 2nd and 3rd tier athletes.

Ok then why bring up average salary?

serious question.

Yeah, I was playing at home this weekend and I saw a trade go down and then BOTH pieces of one end were put on waivers. I relieved a team of a player earlier in the season after seeing that (I think it was the Islanders - traded for someone and then waived him and I claimed him).

Yeah they should leave the "I" off of AI when it comes to video games.

Those figures are a little misleading for a few reasons, though. The NBA has far fewer roster spots is the main one.

That being said, it is a good point. However, the notion that you don't have to be tough to play that sport, or that it isn't physical, insults my intelligence. I played hockey in high school, but the rest of my family played and/or coached basketball, so I grew up around the game. I love hockey, but I never understood the "hockey versus basketball" mentality that comes from the hockey crowd, and trust me, it does exist.

- buffalofan19

I played both. Got more injured playing basketball. But..... I was a goalie.

Because top athletes can make a hell of a lot more in the NBA then they can in the NFL?

Oh, Im not saying that. But to put the two against each other. Football is obviously by far the more physically demanding sport.

I'm not trying to start a huge debate here or anything. Just a thought of if player x could have a 10 year career in either football or basketball, i am not sure why he would choose football?

Hockey injuries - broken finger (shattered) & pulled muscle (groin)
Basketball injuries - several ankle rolls, pulled ligaments in back, broken toe and two broken noses.

Much like soccer in the rest of the world, basketball is still the cheapest sport to pay for by a family. Getting your kid to practices and games are much less demanding for the parents too. That has much more to do with it then any other answer.

Little cagers is $50 for 3 months. They practice once a week and have a game on Saturday.

I'll admit. I was starting to get a bit nervous on Friday when Foligno put them up by a goal. But in the end, my boy Toews came through for the Hawks.

I have said from day 1 that Reinhart isn't a winger, and neither is Grigo. But I don't see having your entire center ice being occupied by 4 guys with little to no experience.

Kane/Girgensons/Ennis
Moulson/Grigorenko/McEichel
Foligno/Reinhart/Gionta
Deluauriers/Schaller/Hodgson/Kaleta

- sbroads24

So you propose a lineup that is largely the same except now Schaller is on the team who has the least experience of all the young centers. McEichel can play C in this league on our top offensive line, Crosby did it and these guys are the 2 best prospects since him. Larsson has always done well defensively and in driving possession when hes been up. His only knock was producing at the NHL level, which he did when he had competent NHL wingers and not Ellis or Kaleta. I cant believe you don't have Larsson in your lineup and ahead of Grigorenko. Hes outplayed him at every stage of his career.

I think some are forgetting murrary has openly said he's trageting a top 6 forward in his early mid 20's

Evander Kane

Nice post
I think it's more likely that either Larsson or even Reinhart play RW this year instead of Girgensons... I pretty much agree with how the rest of it looks. I wouldn't be surprised to see Hodgson in the top9 instead of Larsson though. He's got skill, just needs a coach tht doesn't hate him.
As far as what you're looking for from Murray...
1. Idk if he's looking for a top4 LH defenseman. Zadorov is in there most likely. I don't think he'll be sent down. An Georges is signed for another year so he's there too. Gives McCabe time to ease his way in. Eventually, I think McCabe could be on the top pair on the left side. I really like him. I also agree with you that we need to spend a couple picks on defense in this draft.
2. He's mentioned talking to other GMs about their young goalies, I think that's his #1 priority after he says McDavid's name & drops the mic. Talbot is actually older than you'd think, and Hammond was one of the worst AHL goalies before this miraculous run he's on. Maybe he asks about Lehner though? Allen, Bernier & Vasilevskiy are guys I really like.
3. Murray has made comments that lead me to believe he likes his talent and disagrees with him being buried on a lower line. He's kind of unreadable right now bc of this years stats & his contract, so I think he sticks around & gets a shot at more playing time. Even if he is on the 4th line though, there will be enough talent on that line that they should be able to produce some points.
4. Ya, I used to think Nolan would get another year. But he & Murray are clearly not on the same page. I'd say there's a very good chance we have a new coach next year.

- jdfitz77

1. Murray didn't have a choice with Zads this year, he didn't want to risk a flight to the KHL. Next year he has choice, and I think he'll want him in the AHL.

2. Its funny how goalies are. Markstrom is dominant AHL goalie and is terrible in NHL. Hammond has proven his worth in the NHL, maybe he fizzes, but I think hes legit. I don't want Lehner. Im not convinced hes any good. He fights the puck too much, mostly reliant on his size.

3. Like I said he gotta do something. I don't see Hodgson filling long term bottom 6 role, so I think he has to be moved.

4. Ive never liked Nolan... "yeah, I just told the guys, you gotta work harder!"

There is only a hand full of current NBAers that could play in the 80's and 90's. It has turned into a priss sport. The current guys would curl up in a corner sucking their thumbs if they had to deal with going in the paint like the greats did back then.

I agree, but name one sport where that isn't the case when you compare it to two decades ago. Sports in general has become a culture of being pampered. It's not just basketball.

If there's any insomniacs on the east coast tonight, these might be 3 epic games. Every team is battling for the last playoff spots in the West.

Put guys like Crosby, Stamkos, Tavares, and OV in the high flying 80's and tell me they wouldn't have numbers much closer to Gretzky, Mario, Bossy, ect.

It's fun to compare average goals per game every year on a league average and see how the superstars stack up. If they're that good, their point totals should be consistent and proportional with league wide goal averages per game

Ahh how a couple losses changes things! I heard a guy on the radio talking about how the Sabres finishing last is now a lock and the Isles could lose their last 3 games so the Sabs would have a shot at picks 1&2....

I was nervous as well. I was at an ECHL game Saturday.. but I spent half my time there monitoring the NYI/Buf game. Thankfully that one turned out well for us. Just one more loss to make it all come together.

While it is possible that the Islanders could miss the playoffs and the Sabres could finish 29th. Both are highly unlikely as the gain of a point by one or regulation loss by the other cements this for them.

I guess it's good to hear of people still holding out hope though.

Too many variables for the Islanders not to make it.
