As I've said before, the Flyers have cornered the market on 4-6 dmen. MDZ is the best of the bunch and he's not getting top pair minutes on a contender.
Gotta face some painful facts folks. There are no legit top pair guys available in FA nor will anybody trade you one unless you massively overpay. Barring a miracle, the Flyers D coros won't be ready to contend for 3 to 5 years. It's why I'd be open to trading anyone over the age of 26, including Giroux. - BiggE

I think the Blues are getting ousted in the first round again. Especially if they draw the Hawks. Bye bye hitch - Just5
Just beat 'em yesterday, though -- though I admit the Blackhawks are without Kane, who is a difference-maker
If the Blues don't beat them this year, they might not ever beat them |

"I think defensive statistics are the most unpredictable stats there are," says Charley Kerfeld, a former big league reliever who now serves as a special assistant to Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Jr.
"And since I've been here, we don't have an in-house stats guy and I kind of feel we never will. We're not a statistics-driven organization by any means.
"I'm not against statistics. Everybody has their own way of doing things. But the Phillies believe in what our scouts see and what our eyes tell us and what our people tell us." - PhillySportsGuy

This is the most Glorious blog Bill has ever written....and that is saying something. - MBFlyerfan
This ranks up there with that other one he wrote disparaging the factless oaf that laid into the Flyers a few years back. I can't remember the situation, but I am 55% sure it was Milbury, also. |

They played it safe and locked up vinny. Not working out too good. Hextalls vision is the only way to go for their situation IMO - Just5

I think Hextall's own timeline is a lot shorter than 2-3 years. He wants to win now, but realizes that contention isn't likely to be an immediate occurrence. Outside of really damaging the future, there's not an easy way to become an instant contender.
The short term of it is, the team will have ups and downs. But if they can make a long term contender out of it, that's far better than scraping the future just to make some sort of half-assed run now. Conversely, I'm sure if a great deal falls into his lap that shortens the time frame without really killing the future, he'll jump - Jsaquella
I think we were rightfully a win now team under Holmgren. I think we took serious steps back this season and now we don't have a choice. |
