McDavid could be the next Crosby but Eichel could very well be the next Toews or Kopitar. And if the number of rings means more success? The latter two are one up on Crosby. - Itsjustarash
It doesn't. |

There's nothing that says McDavid is a significantly superior player to Eichel. |

Heh. No, but it's certainly a damn good indicator. |

I haven't watched either player enough to really give an educated opinion, but based on the WJC, McDavid looked like he's currently a better player. Just seemed more dangerous offensively to me in every aspect. |

Do either of them play a solid two way game? I think I just saw a post saying eichel might end up more like toews or kopitar. I really haven't watched much of either.

I'd agree with that. Haven't seen enough of either to get a real good opinion though. Those who watch Eichel can't stop raving about him, while the same goes the other way. Just seems like it may be skewed because those who watch McDavid are louder/more numerous. |

OEL is a top 5 dman in the NHL for sure. He probably will win a Norris or two in his career but it won't be this year. Until the Yotes are a playoff team or very close to one. Then his name will be mentioned in a Norris conversation. Talent wise no doubt he is an elite Dman.
Here is my top 10 dman list.
1-Shea Weber
2-Drew Doughty
3-Erik Karlson
4-Oliver Ekman-Larsson
5-Duncan Keith
6-Victor Hedman
7-Ryan McDonaugh
8-PK Subban
9-Mark Giordano
10-Alex Pietrangelo - Itsjustarash

His offensive game is super overrated. I think it's fair to say he doesn't crack the top 10 "best 2 way dmen"

I've heard more comparisons to Getzlaf than Toews or Kopitar for Eichel. |

The numbers McDavid has put up are pretty insane. Reached 100 points in the same number of games that Stamkos, Tavares, and every other 1st overall since Crosby only put up 60-70. |

I'd say Suter is easily outside the top ten.
(not in order)
OEL, Hedman, Keith, Doughty, Muzzin, Karlsson, Giordana, Brodie, Pietrangelo, Letang, Weber, Subban that's over ten and all are superior to Suter. |

I read that some scouts even feel Eichel should go back to BU for his sophomore year because he's not ready to make an impact right away but I'm not sure how accurate that is. If anything I think Eichel is more NHL ready from playing in the NCAA over the CHL. |

Hmmm that's interesting. I feel like they couldn't have overhyped him they way they did? If that was at all true would everyone have been making such an enormous deal about him? idk.
And on bleacher report I read an article comparing the top draft prospects to current nhl players and they had eichel similar to eric staal in his prime which is getzlaf like. So props to you brother on staying up to date on the draft prospects.

Eichel was playing in the NCAA at 17 years old and is a Hobey Baker finalist. Definitely not overhyped. Nothing wrong with not being NHL ready at 18, but I think he is anyway. |

I should have included Stralmen too honestly. What league do you watch? And how exactly do reputations get made?
If Muzzin isn't in the top ten, then why observe anything at all? Why not just decide at the start of the year who is the best based on feelings and then simulate the games on a Playstation? |

Brodie's been real good even with Gio sidelined but I agree he's not in the conversation yet and Muzzin is even further from it. |

All hail Mr. -19. The best defensive player in the universe.
FYI Tyson Barrie has more points and a better +/- and was equally on a bad team. |

Only if you make up your opinions out of thin air. If you use data - which I don't even know how you can profess to have an opinion if you don't - you'd have to put Muzzin in there. |

If you had to rate how much plus minus should matter, out of 100 it would be measured in integers. - James_Tanner

I understand the statistical evidence to put Muzzin on the list but I think he benefits from a strong system and a great partner. Don't you think it's odd that out of your top 13 (after you add Stralman) list, you listed 3 full defensive pairings? Gio - Brodie, Doughty - Muzzin, Hedman - Stralman....do these teams each really have 2 of the top 15 defensemen in the league or are half those guys benefitting from their elite defensive partners? |
