Bylsma had to deal with more injuries last season and arguably a weaker roster. He got more of out the team. Not saying I want Disco Dan back, but if MJ misses the playoffs, he's out even if Babcock goes elsewhere. - coohill
My thoughts exactly. I don't think Johnston knows what the hell to do with this team. You can see it written all over his face when things go South in a game. Just a blank stare, and no emotion. I really don't like the guy. I'm almost hoping the team doesn't make the playoffs because there is so much wrong with this team. I would hope missing the playoffs would be a huge red flag to ownership to make sweeping changes, but I doubt it.
But then again, I'm nervous as hell. If they hire Pierre McGuire in any capacity, I might shoot myself in the face. I f'in hate that guy so much. |

Except you're all wrong.
He's coming home to coach his beloved Oilers. His family all says so.
And Bob Nicholson was a big part of bringing him into team Canada and next the Oilers.
- Iggysbff
He wants to win an Adams from taking a lottery team to a division title, cant do that with the Wings. Plus he likes working with Lowe, consider it a lock

So Babcock is going to pull Rutherford's Johnson?
Because of Sidney?
What's the E rating on that? - jimi james
Probably not E... sounds like a T for Teen rating. |

Johnston is far from the problem. - TheRollingPuck
I don't know if Johnston is the main problem, but he is, as an outside observer, a definite problem with the penguins.
Sure, you can look to injuries. But the fact of the matter is (as others have pointed out) Disco Dan did a better job with more injuries.
Currently, the penguins are the most penalized team in the league, the lead the league in misconduct penalties, they lead the league in game misconduct penalties, they lead the league in unsportsmanlike like conduct penalties. During an average game the penguins spend about 14 minutes short handed. To me, that boils down to a lack of composure, and that's on the coach.
A good coach can get his team to focus, he holds players accountable for when they screw up (or take dumb penalties). It's fairly clear that there is little to no accountability on this penguins team.
Sure, I'm not going to lay all the blame at the coach's feet. The management did make bad trades at the deadline, poor cap management, there's been a slew of injuries. But the lack of compete, the lack of heart, the lack of composure, that's on the coach, that's his job. And that is definately one of the Penguin's main problems. |

Just pointing out that is wrong, because you are taking in the misconducts and all majors as shorthanded time. Their time down a man still isn't good, very far from it, but its not that high.

8.734 a game on just minors... don't think they've had that many majors that put them a man down (fights and misconducts don't do that), so, round that up to 9 to 9.5 minutes a game realistically. 10 if you want to be REALLY conservative without being under the real total per game. |

Agreed. Detroit will pay him what he wants and he will stay. - SolidGoldBricks
If Babcock was looking to stay in Detroit, he'd have taken $15-20 million for 5 years from Ilitch 9 months ago and this wouldn't have been a story throughout the season (or at this time).
Now, that's not to say he won't return to Detroit; but it's pretty clear to me he's become the Jaromir Jagr of NHL coaching. Whomever makes him the best offer.....whether it's from Detroit, Toronto, Pittsburgh, or Vladivostok.....will have themselves a new coach. |

I'd want to say nearly everyone lazy's out on that when doing PIM per game stats. This would be the only thing that all their majors and such benefit them, in having them not on the PK as much as it might seem. plus a ton of offsetting minors compared to other teams imo... but yeah, still bleh. |

I think he wants to see what his options are but I assume if Detroit matches the money he'll probably stay.
Unless he wants a new challenge, but I cant see him taking on a project/rebuild team. |

Babcock and Holland have butted heads on a handful of roster decisions so there's a good chance he leafs. |
