Clearly you weren't detecting the sarcasm.

He's the richest professional sports team owner in North America.

He wants a challenge, so he goes to a team with Crosby and Malkin?
- Mentalorgasm5

Sure it's a challenge!
Try playing with only 2 lines and no prospects in the system.

It seems like a lot of teams are saying that Babcock may be heading their way but I don't believe he will end up coaching all of the teams he is linked to. He is a competitive guy so he will want to coach somewhere that gives him a shot at winning some more Cups. That immediately rules out Toronto.

Yeah it's like trying to work a VCR with two feet tied behind your back.

How do analogies work?

I just don't get the Babcock obsession.
He is an OK coach, nothing more and nothing less.
If you follow the Wings closely,
the decisions he makes 50% of the time are real head scratchers.
Latest one is letting Weiss and Zidlicky go 3rd and 4th in the shootout,
following Nyquist and Tatar in 1 game.
And similarly puzzling shootout personnel decisions in the following one.
The rumor even had it that he asked Mrazek about who should be shooting next.

- StargateSG1

Is that what the rumor was? I don't beleive it if it didn't come from tsn

Except you're all wrong.

He's coming home to coach his beloved Oilers. His family all says so.

And Bob Nicholson was a big part of bringing him into team Canada and next the Oilers.

- Iggysbff

Coming home to coach the Oilers? Three issues: 1) He's not from Edmonton; 2) He's never coached in Edmonton and 3) Like everyone else, he doesn't want to move to Edmonton.

All I can say is if Mike Babcock doesn't sign with the Leafs I would take Dan Bylsma as a second choice any day of the week.
- isitin

Oh yeah That is exactly what the Leafs need Dan Friggin Bylsma What a moron. If you think the Leafs are bad now, wait til Disco gets them.

Him having the hype around him might be the best things for the Pens, two back to back coaches that were never in the NHL, superstars eventually tuned both out it seems.
- Guile

This. Whether or not Babcock is a great tactition is irrelevant if he can command some respect.

ummm... an owner with deep pockets and new arena coming? you spelled DET wrong.
- BooBoo997

I think Babcock would have resigned in DET already... he is going to listen to offers. You are aware that Babcock has ties to the Central Alberta area?

Just sayin...

I don't know what people expect... how do you expect your forawrds to perform well if you don't have defensemen capable of moving the puck up to them? Letang, Erhoff and Maatta being out is HUGE.

I think he IS going to coach all of the teams he's being linked to. Ever seen a guy coach 9 teams at once? Babcock can.

1) I never said he's from Edmonton.
2) so?
3) his wife's family is from the area and has many close ties to Edmonton.

You should learn to read.

Oh...you're from Montana....that explains things...

I'm not

In fairness, a lot of people passed on FF. I didn't have much faith he'd be a good NHL player, personally.

As far as Staal over Toews, I'd be willing to bet a lot that if Staal's last name was different or Eric wasn't much of a player, that you guys would have ended up with Toews.

- eichiefs9

I remember watching a behind the scenes special on that draft and how one team (can't remember which) was ranking players ahead of the draft. J.Staal was up and the GM asked "So, we see a lot of Eric in him, is what we're saying?" and the answer was a resounding yes. Jordan's name jumped up to #2 on the board just like that.

But......Pegula.

I (frank)ing hate that guy for the sole reason that I am tired of hearing people from Buffalo talk about him as if he is the worldly incarnation of some all-knowing higher being.
