Hmm that was a really big point for Calgary. Especially the second one since they will win the tie breaker. |

First star Eddie Lack, he played well. And what can you say about the twins, they still got something left at 34!!! |

Lack and the Sedins/Burrows won this game. Loved the Bo line until Willie suddenly sat out Kenins.

Willie doesn't trust kenins and either do I. He often pulls him in the 3rd as Dorsett makes more low risk plays.
Amazing win...they likely need one more point and are in. Can't imagine 98 isn't enough. Great bounce back game for lack. Bring on the tanking Coyotes! |

I like where we are (2nd). They really should be pushing for all 4 points against ARI and EDM. |

Kenins was playing responsibly tonight though and that line was our 2nd best. Weird move in a tie game. |

Not sure what WD has against Kenins. - Nucker101
Nothing, just late in a game he doesn't need a turnover that'll cost them. Dorsett won't turn it over, Kenins has lately. |

I have just been catching up on the game time commentary, and I gotta say, this board is a pretty cool spot this time of year. Good group of guys here.
Great game. |

Not to be a Debbie Downer, but a few points:
- Yes, it was a big win, but let's not forget that with Winnipeg winning and LA getting a point, we need to win out if we want to make the playoffs. Those losses against Chicago and Winnipeg really hurt our chances.
- I still don't think we get past the first round, even if we face Calgary, Calgary forechecks like a mofo and as teams like Winnipeg and LA have shown, our D-core tends to cough up the puck a lot if they're pressured hard.
- Eddie played great, but he's prone to giving up that one bad goal, and we've played him a lot, getting Miller in on Saturday (regardless of clinching scenarios) is necessary if we want to give ourselves a chance in the postseason. We need Miller ready in case Lack falters.
- Other than in Winnipeg, in the last few games we've scored 1 or 2 goals in regulation and in the playoffs, quality chances disappear quicker than a fat man eating a burger. We really aren't built to score the garbage goals that tend to win playoff games.
- Vey needs to be scratched and only used if a forward is injured, I also think the forward lines should be:
Sedin-Sedin-Burrows
Higgins-Bonino-Vrbata
Dorsett-Matthias-Baertschi
Kenins-Horvat-Hansen
- Our faceoff percentage beyond Horvat is still lower than all the playoff bound teams, and with our game being based on puck possession, that's going to be a dagger if our first round opponent plays keep away with the puck.
- Our D is our main weakness that I can see, all 7 have muffins for shots and none of them scare goaltenders. We really miss a Salo on the point, someone who can really put mustard on his shot and more importantly get it through and on net.
- Lastly, even though I hate saying this, I hope Utica doesn't make it out of the first round, if we want to make any sort of run we'll need the reinforcements from the farm and if they go deep we won't be able to recall them or else they won't be of any real use. Teams that have a lot of "black aces" (13-14 forward, 7-8 defenseman) tend to be able to whether the inevitable injuries.
Ok, I've ranted enough, good win, we'll see what LA does tomorrow and if Edmonton can do us a favor and play spoiler. We clinch if LA loses according to Sportclubstats.com |
