So what's the deal now to clinch?
Don't we just need L.A and/or Calgary to lose a game? - Whiskey-Tango
I think so. CGY will play LA this week so if either win in regulation I think we're in for certain.
That said, with ARI and EDM on the remaining schedule we really should be winning this out to keep 2nd place in the Pacific. |

Vancouver Canadians.
I don't really enjoy baseball but I was curious. Is it better in person? Or will you still dislike it if you don't have the patience for it on tv?
I'd go to a Comets game if I could, I've read that their home crowds are great. |

Went a few years ago, had a blast. Hopefully will go to one or two this summer. About the same price as going to see a movie too so can't beat it |

There's more to watch when you are at a game live then there is on TV. It's like hockey, the camera never shows the stuff going on behind the play, but sometimes those battles are more interesting then what's going on around the puck. |

This whole thing about the Blue Jays being Canadian is biggest crock of sh!t I've ever seen. You know what's Canadian, an Olympic hockey team made up of solely Canadians...now that I can get behind! The Blue Jays have one Canadian two Americans and 28 guys from Latin America...WTF???
For someone who travels a lot to the USA, their society and ours are much more similar than they are different, that's why I don't get the love for something so far away. Cheer local!!!
Edit: Scooby grew up in Toronto, Vantel grew up in Montreal so I understand their passion for a team they grew up with...but not guys who were born and raised leftcoasters. - LeftCoaster

Not to be a Debbie Downer, but a few points:
- Yes, it was a big win, but let's not forget that with Winnipeg winning and LA getting a point, we need to win out if we want to make the playoffs. Those losses against Chicago and Winnipeg really hurt our chances.
- I still don't think we get past the first round, even if we face Calgary, Calgary forechecks like a mofo and as teams like Winnipeg and LA have shown, our D-core tends to cough up the puck a lot if they're pressured hard.
- Eddie played great, but he's prone to giving up that one bad goal, and we've played him a lot, getting Miller in on Saturday (regardless of clinching scenarios) is necessary if we want to give ourselves a chance in the postseason. We need Miller ready in case Lack falters.
- Other than in Winnipeg, in the last few games we've scored 1 or 2 goals in regulation and in the playoffs, quality chances disappear quicker than a fat man eating a burger. We really aren't built to score the garbage goals that tend to win playoff games.
- Vey needs to be scratched and only used if a forward is injured, I also think the forward lines should be:
Sedin-Sedin-Burrows
Higgins-Bonino-Vrbata
Dorsett-Matthias-Baertschi
Kenins-Horvat-Hansen
- Our faceoff percentage beyond Horvat is still lower than all the playoff bound teams, and with our game being based on puck possession, that's going to be a dagger if our first round opponent plays keep away with the puck.
- Our D is our main weakness that I can see, all 7 have muffins for shots and none of them scare goaltenders. We really miss a Salo on the point, someone who can really put mustard on his shot and more importantly get it through and on net.
- Lastly, even though I hate saying this, I hope Utica doesn't make it out of the first round, if we want to make any sort of run we'll need the reinforcements from the farm and if they go deep we won't be able to recall them or else they won't be of any real use. Teams that have a lot of "black aces" (13-14 forward, 7-8 defenseman) tend to be able to whether the inevitable injuries.
Ok, I've ranted enough, good win, we'll see what LA does tomorrow and if Edmonton can do us a favor and play spoiler. We clinch if LA loses according to Sportclubstats.com - DariusKnight
Unless we go pointless in the last 2 games we're making the playoffs, it's just a question of what seeding we end up at.
Miller hasn't had an exemplary season to the point where he should be considered our #1 at all costs. He went 5-6-0 .892% in the 11 games before injury. Even if he does get 1 game before the playoffs, if they went with him as the true playoff #1 coming off a lengthy injury it would be based on historical achievements and not the goalie he's been for us IMO.
I really don't think anyone in Utica will give us much more of a boost in the playoffs other than injury cover. The best NHL players we have at the moment are the ones in Vancouver.
Everything else I agree with you on. We need an offensive Dman pretty badly. I noted last night the dramatic decline of Edler's offensive game. He's now been consigned to teeing up Weber for shots from the point. |

Expos Red Sox and Yankees are my teams, and Mariners.
When I was a kid , way way back when , i went to Boston to see the Yanks , Marris and Mantle hit homers. Mantles landed three seats in front of me. - VANTEL
Canucks - BC Lions - Seahawks - Mariners - even cheered for the Sonics...
Growing up in Van in the early 70's that's what we had while I was very young and aware of the Expos the Mariners will always be #1 for me. Was a Mariners fan long efore the Jays ever got to the League. I cheered or the Jays in the early 90's as they took the MLB title away from the States but that's it...it's MARINER time!!!!

Honestly. I find baseball games far more fun than hockey games. Such a different feel in the crowd. Everyone is laid back. Making fun of players managers and eachother.
If I could choose between hitting up a canuck game seven SCF. Or a Jays Game 7 WS. I truly think I'd go blue jays. The atmosphere is so much better than a hockey arena (Atleast Vancouvers) I couldnt be swayed. |

I love watching both live, but I'm inclined to agree with you. If I could go watch an A's World Series game or a Canucks game...I'd be hard pressed to pass up the A's ticket!!
