Zero. We will close it out on Friday with a 3-2 lose to the jackets

Won't be able to count on Pittsburgh. They'll be resting their good players.

They only have the wild card slot by 2 points. Why would they be resting their good players?

yes but they also could get home ice advantage if they pass Washington and the Islanders. So i am not sure if they would rest players if they could get home ice??

If you were to put Mario or Wayne in todays NHL they would struggle to get to 100. They would still lead the pack but todays NHL is just different. Its hard to compare eras. I mean the early 2000's were much different from hockey right now.

I feel bad for the generational players of this era. They wont ever be in the top 5 list due to the change in the NHL with lower scoring.

I feel pretty confident that both players, if in their primes, would be the best two players in the NHL today by a wide margin.

Gretzky scored 97 points in 1996-97 at age 36. The only concern I'd have with Gretzky is his size. He wasn't huge so the bigger/stronger/faster thing could impact him. But given what he could still do at age 36 in the middle of the clutch-and-grab era, I think he'd be very successful in today's NHL.

I have almost no doubts about Mario being a beast in today's NHL for 3 reasons: (1) 6'4, 230 - he was physically a beast even by today's standards; (2) Jagr, who wasn't as good as Mario, put up 67 points at age 41 in '13-'14; and (3) Mario was still a beast at age 40 when he retired for good in '05-'06, and Mario put up 91 points in 67 games in '02-'03 at age 37. The game has not changed that much since he dominated it as an old man. If he were in his prime, he would easily score 100-150 every year, even in today's NHL.

Gretzky and Mario really were that f'ing good. They'd be the best two players in any generation you want to drop them in.

I said they would be the best if they played right now. But there is no way they put up the numbers they did in todays NHL.

Kaiser, was it you that was disappointed with the Saul finale? I just watched it and while it wasn't as "active" as some of the prior episodes, I think it was an amazing way to end the season and get excited for season 2.

So my take-away from this long Crosby discussions is the game today sucks in comparison to years gone by.
I'd take the wide open 197x Sabres vs Canadians games any day / all day.
And the LaFontaine / Molgilny years were fantestical as well.
This boring trap / clutch and grab crap that Snyder and Jacobs influenced to bring back after 2006 & 2007 seasons because their Flyers and Bruins couldn't compete has ruined the modern game IMO.

I wasn't even calling him a generational player. But I don't care what era he played in, you don't notch 95 assists for no reason, and in Mogilny's 76 goal season, where he tied with Teemu Selenne for the league lead, the second place goal scorer was Lemeuix with 69, Robataille with 63, everyone else under 60. So you can't just claim that Mogilny played in a better era. Aside from Lemeuix's 69, the goal scoring really wasn't out of control. Sure you had MORE 50 goal scorers, but in today's NHL, it seems like assists are the biggest difference. there are still usually several 40 goal scorers a year and usually a few 50 goal scorers.

- DynamicThreads

it so was.
like on another planet.

some incredibly mediocre players reached 50. like a bunch. ray sheppard, Bernie nicholls, craig simpson, bobby carpenter, mike bullard, al secord, etc etc etc etc
but that was the era.
high scoring with weak defence and a huge talent gap between top and bottom was the name of the game.
today its only the ultra elite that reach 50. ovie, stammer, iginla
and even then those often don't make it like this year.

I somewhat agree. but if you watch tapes it reminds/shows how weak so many players and tending was back in the day.
the talent gap between top an bottom was so huge.

middling-good players today like say ennis/boychuk would dominate and get huge totals in that game

Which NHL coaches are getting fired after this season?

God I just hope columbus wants to put on a good show for the last home game of the season. I do not want this to come down to the final game. The yotes vs the sharks could go in our favor, but we control our own destiny essentially, this is killing me
