What do you think it would take to get Matt Duchene from Colorado? His speed and skill would be nice to add to the 2nd line with Couturier. - J35Bacher
He's a 2nd line forward with a 6 million cap hit, no thanks

Trade for Oshie?
edit: Leight - BiggE
I don't think you can specifically target players who are good in shootouts. In Oshie's case, he is a very good player who happens to excel in shootouts. I believe Franz Nielsen has even a better shooting % than Oshie does. Which is hard to believe. |

Brayden Schenn can't help himself but score now. There's a couple of ways to look at it:
Glass half full: He's turning the corner and getting more offensive confidence that he'll carry into next year.
Glass half empty: He's been great ever since the games became meaningless.
Personally, I think the position change has helped. I think a new coach might help. - johndewar
this is the exact thought i had when i saw that poop goal go in yesterday. |

Phillysportsguy has been calling for B Schenn to be moved to right wing all year, good call!

he was (frank)ing disgraceful in it this year. - hammarby31
They will beat the Sens in a shootout the last game of the year. In doing so they will
1. Pass Columbus in the standings
2. Put the Pigeons in the playoffs.

Isn't Giroux something like 1-12 in shootouts this year? With the type of skill he there is no reason he should be that bad. I really don't understand it. I think it's def more of an issue with the shooters. I would think the Flyers save % in shootouts would be around league average this year, their shooting % has to be in the bottom 3. - PLindbergh31
Just don't understand why Giroux blows on shootouts. Maybe it's an all round confidence issue with this team. A guy like Oshie has ice in his veins and goes in there to finish the job

3-11? Holy poop. I knew they were bad, I didn't think they had lost 11 out of 14 shooutouts this season.
They entered the season with an NHL worst .342 win % in shootouts. Amazingly, they have managed to make that embarrassing number even worse. And Berube made jokes after a practice how inept they are.
Amazing, the coaches change, the players change, and the results are always the same. They piss so many points away it's absurd. Granted, I don't like shootouts, but it's an NHL rule that isn't going to change anytime soon. The Flyers have to figure out a way to win more of these. - PLindbergh31
Flyers and OT can be looked at two ways - they were a bad enough team this season that they were lucky to have gotten to that point or they were a good team who should have closed out games in regulation. I know which one I would pick. |

i'm pretty sure we'll see an extended OT which will include 3 on 3 in the next year or two which will significantly reduce the number of SOs and therefore eliminate their stupid (frank)ing problem. unless they go on to suck at 3 on 3 too, which, i'm sure they will. - hammarby31

Yeah, I was just goofing around.
In all seriousness, practicing the damn thing and choosing the guys with the best hand skills is the only way I can think of to improve their record in shootouts. As someone else said, hopefully they add a few minutes of 3 on 3 and reduce the amount of shootouts.
Personally, I would do the following at the end of tie games:
4 minutes of 4 on 4
3 minutes of 3 on 3
2 minutes of 2 on 2
1 minute of 1 on 1
and, if still tied after all of that, the goalies meet at center ice, drop the gloves and the last one standing wins the game for his club. I hate shootouts! |

This gives us, like, 10 natural centers, 5 guys suited to playing RW, and no real good options at LW.
My math may be off, but not by much. |

I don't know. I see they want to retain O'Reilly which will cost money if they do. He is just a guy I notice when I watch because of his speed and quickness. |

How about that game! And thank god we got another 2 (frank)ing points!
- wolfhounds
Even with the win they are still 8th and Columbus has Buffalo and Toronto as two of their last 3 games. Colorado beat Nashville to stay 2 points ahead. Even with 2 more wins its unlikely they will catch Florida or San Jose. the only game I will have a hard time rooting for them to win is if Ottawa can beat out the Pens or Boston that last game of the season. |

Same with G scoring at home. This team has no pressure on it and they look like they are out there having fun knowing the season is done soon. One of the reasons that 4th goal for the Isles happened last night was because Raffl kept trying to feed Jake for the empty netter, something he wouldn't do if the game meant anything.
So yeah, Schenn's scoring touch now that the season is over is nice, but the next step for him is doing it consistently when it counts. |

I really wish I knew what the answer was. I do not think any rules are going to be changed. The shootout has been in place now 9 years? They don't seem in any hurry to change anything with it.
They will change other poop that makes zero sense. Why aren't the playoffs 1-8 seeds based on points? Answer: Because it's simple, and makes a ton of sense. So they must over think things and try and re-invent the wheel.

It's like people are only looking at this season With Giroux in the shootout.
Yes, her has sucked this year in it but look over the course of his career. If he sucks at it again next year then I have issues with it but 4 years of being good at it trumps 1 bad season for me. |

Yup. I would just go with Emery and play not to lose. It would be funny just to watch the other teams goalie piss himself as that final minute runs down!

I'm completely indifferent to their "winning" at this point, except that Pitt game on Sunday which was pretty sweet, the closest thing to the playoffs in 2015. Turning it on at the end, again, when there's no pressure, the season is over and the games are meaningless (to the Flyers) does nothing for me. Luckily, it seems like we'll get a solid player with either the #7 or #8 pick, so that works. |
