No way can I agree that Nesterov is better (right now). His sample size is way too small to make a statement like that IMO. Put him out there for as much as Sustr played this year and he would wear down and make mental mistakes just like Sustr has - uf1910
What if I told you Nesterov brings more offense, is more physical, and has a better Corsi with a much higher percent of defensive zone starts? Sustr would be struggling to make an AHL roster if he wasn't 6'8". He is not good. |

Sustr is Keith Aulie without the toughness. I've seen all I need to see of Sustr. He's mistakes are repeated EVERY GAME!!!!! |

If they resign Barberio or Sustr both would have to clear waivers. Witkowski will have to clear waivers next year as well. Koekkoek has two years and Nesterov will have one year of waiver free transfers.
Going to be interesting to see how they proceed with the D corps after this year is over. - stammerman
Those guys are 7th dmen at best. |

Can I jump on the TBL bandwagon after Detroit starts golfing? |

Hedman Stralman
Garrison Carle
Coburn Nesterov
(Barberio or Sustr if they are desparate enough). The only down the side is to many lefty's. |

Coburn and Nesterov would make a pretty damn solid 3rd pair. |

When Sustr was healthy, he was trusted by the coaching staff (on the ice with less than a minute to go on a one goal game... Stralman on the bench). I don't see Nesterov there yet. I guess you guys need someone to whine about and since Carle is playing good, you shifted your attention to a young dman with a little over 100 games played. He's still learning. Unless they trade him, Sustr will be top 6 next season and Nesterov in the AHL with Koekoek. |

I agree with this, he is not as bad as some make him out to be - he has his moments but he has played around 100 games. Here is my earlier post.
I have watched Sustr closely all year and why he is no means great when given limited minutes he plays well enough for a guy with around a 100 games played, he is surprisingly good when pinching in the ozone. That said when they move him up the lines and increase his minutes he struggles mightily and looks horrible but I will take him on my third pairing over Koekkoek (too green right now) and Witkowski (not sold on him at all). I like Nesterov and would like him paired with Sustr over Barbs. When Barbs and Sustr are paired together its a train wreck.
Here is how I see next year that fits salaries and waiver exemptions, I don't see the Bolts resigning Barbs as Nesterov has same skill set and to me more potential.
Hedman-Stralman
Garrison-Coburn
Carle-Sustr
Witkowski (not waiver eligible) and Nesterov first call up followed by Koekkoek |

Why does he get a higher percent of offensive zone starts than Nesterov then? |

It has nothing to do with Carle playing well, in fact Carle is still underachieving in my book, but he will probably never live up to his salary. The reason we (me) "whine" about Sustr is simply because he isn't very good, and as arty said he repeats the same mistakes over and over again. On top of it, he's softer than the snuggle bear and won't stand up for his team mates. All in all, just my opinion, but I much prefer both nesterov and barberio to sustr. |

Not saying he is a "lock", again as stated someone will have to move if Koekk's or Nesterov are in b/c no way Yzerman is letting a guy like Sustr go for nothing (like Panik). As this year has pointed out depth is key so having Sustr start the year and Koekk/Nesty as depth can't be a bad thing as it's almost certain they would be called up at some point.

I honestly doubt Barberio is brought back. I think we would want him back as 7th d-man/depth but my thought is he wants more of a sure-bet role with a team and with Nesterov emerging Barbs is expendable

Personally I won't put much if any stock in Nesty's Corsi simply b/c the sample size is so small. Again, my point is if Nesterov played as much as Sustr he would be worn down as well. Nothing against Nesterov, again I stated he has really played well and is emerging as a very good prospect. I'm just not ready to label him better with 25 games under his belt

Wow bro. As I stated... someone will have to be moved for Nesty/Koekk's to be in the top 6. They aren't going to stay as the 7th d-man and Sustr is not waiver eligible. What part of that is opinion?

Aulie hasn't played top 4 minutes in his entire career much less being capable. Sustr still has some growing to do but there is a reason Aulie couldn't crack the Oilers top 6 |

Well the good old eye test says Nesterov is better. You disagreed so I provided concrete evidence. Now you try to disregard the concrete evidence. I have no idea what you look for in defenseman but it's clearly different then what I look for. |

Sustr is getting top six minutes because we don't have a choice. |
