The only way it could be costly is if one team gets/drops a point in OT.
Ottawa goes 2-0, Pitt beats Buffalo and loses their other game, we are in. Exactly as it would have been with a win in regulation. - Mr_Clean
That Flyers goal with 3 seconds left could turn out to be pretty important in this context. Isles can't afford a loss on Friday night, with a party pooper named CBJ waiting at the finishing line.
Exciting times. |

Yup... Honestly, if we win can both our remaining games, I think we're in. Otherwise, I think we miss. But there are a weirdly large number of spots we could finish in, even if we lost a game in OT lol - Mr_Clean
I think Ottawa NEEDS to win the last two games, but in case of interesting scenarios- the Islanders have Pittsburgh and Columbus yet. That Pittsburgh game is obviously going to be massive- but Columbus has been on a crazy roll lately, so that's no layover game either.
NY still has the tiebreaker, but if Islanders lose both of those games, Ottawa jumps them.
NYI (98 pts)- @ PIT, CBJ
DET (97 pts) - @ MTL, @ CAR
PIT (96 pts)- NYI, @BUF
BOS (95 pts) - @WSH, @FLA, @TB
OTT (95 pts) - @ NYR, @ PHI |

There are quite a few scenarios that the Sens get in.
If they win their last 2 games, I don't see them being denied.
Let's say the Pens go out and beat the Isles (in regulation), then that means the Isles have to win their last game against an incredibly hot Columbus team to make the playoffs. |

Definitely patting myself on the back right now with Stone. I called this kid being a future star awhile ago.
I know everyone is praising him right now, but some of us could all see this coming back in the fall... then again when people seemed to want to add him in every trade package for Evander Kane. I said at the time that I think Stone will probably be a better player than Kane and I wouldn't even do the deal 1 for 1 (obviously Kane's attitude issues factored in that comment).
Up until the last few games, he was more of a play maker, but now he's added a nice sniping ability.
I absolutely love how he actually takes a look at the net before he shoots (watch the majority of NHLers.. when they get the puck, they fire it on net with their head down, trying to maximize power). Stone, on the other hand, sacrifices a bit of power for accuracy.
Both this goals (as well as the one in the Leafs game) were total sniper shots. He saw a target, and took a bit off the shot to hit the target.
This kid is going to be dangerous as hell in the slot in the future. Hopefully, they realize this and change the PP around a bit. I've never been a fan of him being the guy standing in front of the crease. It seems like we are wasting his talent. |

Blows my mind that a team could finish with 99 points and still miss the playoffs.
What a ride these last two months have been. Just Unbelievable |

Loved the Bob MacKenzie poll of NHL coaches and, specially, his asking who is the best Dman in the NHL? Karlsson got double the number of first place votes to the runner up (Doughty). Not even close. 20 coaches participated. 10 each from east and west conference. |

15 NHL teams are at or have a shot to hit the 100-point thresh hold. the ridiculous amount of OT games helps. plus you have a combination of parity among the top teams and a collection of teams at the bottom (Edmonton, Buffalo, Arizona, Toronto) that are as rancid and putrid as it gets that just hand over points by the fistful.
100 points is almost becoming the "mediocre" point. |

This stretch that Mark Stone has played since the new year has pretty much convinced me he is the real deal. He just has brilliant hockey IQ. Always at the right place at the right time. It's scary how good he is at that at 22. I always thought he was going to be a good top six forward, but now I'm starting to think he is going to be a star. Big goals and key times is something I've always preached that star players need to have. He's been scoring them or involved in them for awhile now.
Great 3rd period by the team last night. I still don't know why they look disinterested at some points in games then look like Stanley Cup contenders at other points. They definitely let the nerves get the better of them early on.
It's hard to get in the playoffs, but you never know what can happen. Last night was a great example. - Gord_Wilson_2.0 . He reminds me of Justin Williams, which is a scary proposition for possible playoff opponents

That was in my top 5 games that I've ever been to. The top ones were beating Anaheim in the SCF, beating MTL in OT in the playoffs and beating the Rangers in OT in the playoffs. Then last night!
Unreal... - riceroni
lucky man to be at those games --- (I'm assuming your a dude)
what was the mood like during the game? what else can you say about the night?
Mark Stone
I would resign the guy asap. If the Sens make the playoffs - these contracts will be inflated. OR they do bridge deals and resign later although I imagine Zibanejad, Pageau, and Stone trending up. Hoffman is a guy that offensively I can see regress and I would consider what to do about him and Michalek - with MacArthur signed and Puempel coming. |

Seriously. Here's hoping that we get some help from other teams the next 4 nights. We're going to need it
Really want to get Stone + Zibanejad locked up at good cap hits. Stone will be 23 all of next season; which means a 4 year deal makes him a UFA. Giving him a 3 year deal will mean a good cap hit but will also mean a likely raise at that time. I'd give him a 5-6 year deal at 3.5-3.75M. Same with Zibanejad. Some fans will look at that and think "no way they take that". People have to remember that when the dust settles, these guys are still on entry levels and will be happy to get the security. Also will be paid same (or more) than Turris |

I'll have to be "that guy" you mentioned right after this and say I don't think stone will take that.
Zib might, Stone will take a bridge deal. He's playing too well right now not too.
If Murray can somehow lock him up for that though, that'd be sweet. |

By the way - Ryan is playing horrible and Cameron needs to ice the following starting line up tomorrow:
MacArthur - Turris - Stone
Hoffman - Zibanejad - Chiasson
Condra - Pageau - Lazar
Smith - Legwand - Ryan
Methot - Karlsson
Wiercioch - Ceci
Boroweici - Gryba

Yes, snipers.
Not most NHL players in general.
Perfect example was Chiasson last night. How many point blank chances did the guy have? Instead of taking a bit of time to look at where he was shooting, the guy has his head down and shoots it right at the logo on Fleury's chest. |

I can see why people think Stone wouldn't take that - considering how well he is playing. But there's a few reasons why I think 4M is the max he gets. The Sens hold all the balls here with him coming off his entry level. Sure he's playing amazing but the fact is that many hockey players had great years early in their career and get paid around the same range. Palat and Johnson in TB are great recent examples. But I just get a feeling like Stone isn't greedy and just wants to play hockey. I'd give him a 6 year deal at 4 if I could but I doubt HIS AGENT thinks of that. It makes sense for him to sign a 4-5 year deal but even if he signs 3 it's not that big of a deal - although I won't like it |

Trying to stay cool. Refuse to be disappointed if they miss playoffs. Great season, amazing second half, unbelievable game late night.
I believe Brian Murray does a huge draft week deal. Sens have a great asset base and are in a position to deal for an elite player to add to their top line. |
|
|
|
I've said it before and I'll say it again.
I would try my best to lock him up at 7 yrs 4-4.5M/yr.
It's a 'win/win' proposition for both sides. Stone is set for life, regardless of injury or slumps and the Sens get a great contract that will be tradeable if for some reason he regresses.
That said, I don't see the kid regressing. He seems to have a genuine love for the game.. I don't think all that money will change him. |

I'm not saying I don't like the cap hit you were proposing, but the term.
He will take a bridge deal because he stands to gain much more money down the road.
He'll still get a huge raise on his current contract, and he will leave himself open to get an even bigger raise if he continues to produce.
Signing a long term deal leaves himself open to leaving a lot of money on the table. |
