LA would move out other parts and make Toffoli fit. Jones I could see and isn't a bad idea. - sbroads24
That's the point. They probably choose to keep Toffoli, but by offer sheeting both, you make them have to give up Jones. |

I'd prefer neither. The cost to get them would probably be higher than I would be willing to give up. - thatsapickle
Not sure what it would take, but both players have had a couple "off" seasons, Brown especially. And both carry big cap #s on teams that desperately need relief.
I'm thinking some thing like a 2nd for Brown, tops
And maybe the same for Marchand, plus a prospect or another pick
I think they'll both be fairly discounted
Unless u really just don't like the players, then the cost doesn't even matter |

Toffoli and Jones both have to sign the offer first. I'd imagine other teams might be interested in trading for Jones as well before he hits FA. He's probably one of the better goalies that could be available |

I'd rather do something Yost suggested. Offer sheet Toffoli at $5.5 and Martin Jones at $3.5. The pick compensation doesn't overlap so they could do it. LA doesn't have the money to match both offers. So the Sabres either get a top-6 winger or a potential franchise goalie. - Pierceme69
In that case, LA definitely keeps Tofolli over their backup goalie...
But do we want Jones as our "franchise" goalie?
Look at how Scrivens was after he left? Bernier is the real deal, but idk yet if Jones is BC every LA goalie looks good with that team in front of them.
There's other young goalies out there I'd prefer
Allen, Vasilevskiy, Gibson... And even Bernier |

They both sign. Toffoli makes $716K right now. He's signing for $5.5 million. Jones make $550,000. He's signing too for $3.5 million. |

Brown's body is wearing down. He's a 3rd liner at best and will continue his downward trend.
Marchand will be a completely different player without Chara and Lucic scaring people into leaving him alone. - muffin_man
I can see your point on Brown, BC his production is down 2yrs in a row now, but whenever I watch the Kings he still looks good to me. Not sure what the issue is out there?
But I'd rather him on the 3rd line than Gionta. And brown has been the captain of a couple Cup winning teams recently. I think the guys might also relate to him better than Gionta BC the age difference is much closer, and he's won those Cups so much more recently.
U could be right about Marchand, but we don't need a "Lucic" to "protect" him, do we?
We've got a handful of guys that will cover our talented players backs.
And if that's something you're worried about,
Then Brown (or someone like that) would be a good addition for that reason as well |

I know, but there are 28 other teams that could offer them a contract.
A team that is already very competitive could offer Toffoli a bigger deal and afford to give up 2 late 1sts as compensation |

Most teams don't offer sheet RFAs. The Sabres are in a unique situation. Murray seems like the kind of guy that would stick it to a team that is up against the cap for a player he covets. |

I wouldn't even do Brown for Hodgson right now. That contract is too long - sbroads24

I think he's planning on doing that, but I think it will be a Boychuk/Leddy type of move.
I like the idea in theory, I just think it's sort of a pipedream that they get them both to sign an offer sheet, and get LA to let one walk for small compensation.
Hell, they might want Jones long term and trade Quick down the road |

Why is it a pipedream that both players would want to sign for huge raises? |

No idea. I think someone like Oshie could be had. He's having a really good year and will only be 28 I think. The Blues have Schwartz and Tarasenko to resign
Hagelin would be nice |

Oshie fits the mold here too IMO. Solid two way player and he can skate well.

Not as huge from LA. They don't have the cap space. Which is why you offer sheet both players at the same time and force them to choose one. |

That's the trick though, exploiting a team that's so desperate/tight against the cap that you can get a guy like oshie without having to give up any more of your blue chippers.
Philly, St louis, Chicago, NYR are the teams id look at.
I'd be okay with trading prospects picks if its like the Fasching trade or a 1 for 1. But I don't think they'll do any package deals any time soon unless something unusual happens and the right guy becomes available. |
