I have a good feeling about this draft... Maybe JUST MAYBE will we be given the 1st overall...

Also, I can totally see Edmonton trading down. In a perfect world, the leafs offer phaneuf+gardiner+ for the Oilers 1st (Oilers would probably throw an overpaid player ito offset phaneufs contract).

If the Leafs somehow will the lottery AND pull off a deal for the oilers #3-4 pick... Imagine a McDavid- Marner/Strome tandem going forward......

The leafs should also aim to grab merkley or koneceny if they're available with the preds pick.

Hey Colin, want to start by saying I appreciate your opinion. Completely disagree with it, but appreciate it.

If the Leafs believe Hanifin will be a better defenceman than Strome will be at centre, or Marner as a centre/wing, then they should take Hanifin. Drafting the player your organization believes to be the best prospect available over the player that fills the more dire organizational need isn't crap, it's the best way to go about a reset. If the Leafs take two defencemen in the first round, so be it. If they take two centres I'll be fine with that too, if they believe Strome will be the best pick.

This team will suck for the foreseeable future, there will be plenty of time to draft a centre of they need to later on. I think it would be a mistake to make this selection based on a void that this current management team (outside of Nonis) can't be held responsible for.

When Canada won gold in salt lake city I lost my poop like ive never lost my poop before. Only this would make me come close to that day. I'm a cubs fan and a leafs fan so I don't plan on seeing any championships anytime soon . Come on lotto!!

I know, believe me I've felt the pain as keenly as the rest of you.

I just don't think you can make this selection based on that reason alone. If you pick one of Strome or Marner because you believe they will develop into the best player then I'm all for it.

I firmly believe Strome is a piece we not only want going forward, but need!!

time will tell, quit winning games and keep that 9.5%...top 5 being the worst pick possible.

good post.

I think bpa is always the best tactic in drafting. That player should have the best trade value if you need to move him later.

I see defense as being almost as big as need as C. Rielly is potentially only 1/2 of a top 2 pairing.

Chicago did well drafting d-men early in their rebuild and forwards later on. Keith/Seabrooke/Toews/Kane are now all in their primes together.

Edm seems to have it backwards; having their forwards entering their prime years and their best D prospects a few years away.

Leafs will likely be drafting top 5 for a few years anyways; lots of chances to get that top C.

Completely disagree. You take the BPA when you are a bottom feeding team. That BPA is an asset, and if that asset is worth a heck of alot more than your "positional needs" player available, you take him. That pick can always be parlayed into something else down the road.

Assuming we pick at 4, if for some crazy reason Edmonton doesn't take him, I would take Hanifin over Strome hands down. Strome is projected to be a 1/2 center, and Hanifin is projected to be a franchise defenceman. I will take the latter.

Brandon Carlo is my pick with Nashville's pick, he is a player who has really worked hard to get to where he's at, he has improved every year and that success will continue. Hes also massive. 6'5 195. Brandon is our replacement for Cody Franson but more defensive minded.

If he is even still there when they do pick. I really like Konecny as well, but he won't be there by the time we pick also.
