Look how good our bottom 6 was this season. We are going to have to rely on that more in the next couple of seasons with the aging Sedins so it's not hard to understand why Benning paid what it takes to keep Dorsett part of it.

People have shallow logic. They worry that it has the appearance of paying too much for a player based on a floating market value but can't think deep enough to see the contracts often reflect what the player is worth to this team... regardless of what a similar player might get somewhere else. Are you worried the other teams fans will laugh at the contract?

He is tradeable if needed.

Sbisa can be worth his money. He was instantly better when Bieksa was out of the line up. At 25, he can improve... or be moved. Benning has left a window open for trades on all his contracts so far... even Vrbatta and Miller have to provide lists upon request. Benning wont handcuff his own hands behind his back after swallowing the key and tying a plastic bag over his head... and jumping in the pool... like Gillis.

Man, the hysteria on here after two decent extensions. I would suggest that Benning might have some clue as to what he is doing.

I'm late to the party on this but for what it's worth I think Dorsett's deal was fair value. As Vantel stated pretty emphatically, he may have been signed last summer as a 4th liner but is clearly now part of a very serviceable 3rd line. Plus he fights.

Sbisa as an RFA I would rather have seen us get at a bit cheaper - some sort of bridge deal under 3m to see how he develops - but it's not a catastrophe if the cap goes up this summer.

Doubtful. Back injuries are notoriously difficult to shake off completely plus we could use Kassian in the playoffs to provide a spark.

Dorsett has been great (in my opinion, his signing was one of the best moves made by the Canucks (and arguably, along with Vrbata, probably in the running for top off-season moves). I hope there is some way we can keep him, but at a reasonable hit, which I have a feeling will be difficult (especially after the year he's had)

Dorsett is among the most valuable players on the team for what he provides, I don't care if he is a "4th liner", and neither does WD. If another player tried to use Dorsett's contract as a reason for them to earn more I'd say, yeah, give me half the effort and results he does on a daily basis and then we can talk...
