I guess you haven't seen the news...

- Scooby_Doo

good grief, my bad (see? that's one of the drawbacks of living in a van down by the river - I get my news from a squirrel feed I've subscribed to (they are obviously behind ).

That's great news - and a very decent cap hit. I was really thinking it might be a bit of a tough negotiation (given that he's had a terrific year but also because he indicated he really enjoyed his time in Columbus. Good stuff, though

Holy (frank) the Leafs are sad sack of poop, those guys have zero heart, Columbus is jus eating them alive.

That's the list of defenceman making 3.5-3.6 I think everybody who's hating on Sbisa needs to step back from the ledge a bit

Not disagreeing with you entirely but many of those players were signed as UFAs and/or had some previous history commanding some salary. Sbisa is an RFA with not too much to lean on statistically. Keep in mind PK Subban was signed to a 2.85m bridge deal.

Fair enough I get what you're saying, so maybe we did pay him Ufa money to keep one of our younger D.. And given how crazy Ufa can be maybe we saved money and he gets 4?! Basically what I'm saying is I don't believe it's anywhere as outrageous as some people are implying it is

I read somewhere that Columbus had the most man-games lost due to injury. I think they have a fairly strong nucleus and will make some noise in the next few years - if they can remain healthy (still unsure as to what's going to happen with Horton but that would be another great addition into the active roster if he manages to get back to health

And it cost the Habs dearly the following year. Imagine if they signed him 5 years at 4.5 back then.

Oh totally, but his play already commanded that sort of salary. I was shocked to see that deal when signed. Subban was 10x the defender that Sbisa was even at that point. To be fair though it does seem to be an isolated case.

Agreed. Unlike the Dorsett deal which was spot on IMO I would have hoped for about 1m less for Sbisa but who cares, it's not my money. It's not as if it'll put us in cap trouble.

Isn't Ryan Johansen and ROR also another situation where they didn't want to pay now but will pay later

Why have they not fired Nonis? Why have they not stoned him to death with day old donuts?

What a joke that team is.

Because Shanahan needs a patsy during the hatchet job that's going to happen in TO this summer.

Really hope you're not anticipating a similar breakout from Sbisa. Dude has 11 points and is a -9. I don't mind the physicality he brings but he really shouldn't be in the same conversation as those two players.

I look at his age, size and the minutes he plays.

I don't know what will happen but I think one of Bieksa Higgins Kassian Miller will be moved and free up some space.

Seems like Benning does too.

Bottom line for me is Benning has my trust until he doesn't. The Benning/Linden regime has been exactly what this team needed thus far. They definitely have my benefit of the doubt.

My point was when GMs don't want to pay someone this year it cost you more in the long run. I am sure Benning could have signed Tanev 3x3 last year

So aside from the #1 & 3 picks who do you think the major piece was in the Kesler deal?

Yeah, I'm in the same boat. The AAV might hurt a bit in the first two years, but I bet the last two years will be palpable.

Capitals 2-0 over Bruins atm👍👍

Caps hold on n Ottawa takes the Rangers to OT n beat Philly then Boston needs to beat Florida n get a point from TB to knockout Ottawa.
