Sbisa at 3.6 puts him at the same numbers as

Hey, I'm the guy who's been saying play the youngsters at all costs, but as Lefty has pointed out, that's not the canucks plan.

They want to be competitive every season and build through the draft. So that generally means no trading picks. UFA market is crazy so that's obviously a no.

So a team has to keep the players they have. They both got UFA money. JB obviously wants to take his time to restructure this team and this is the safe way to do it.

It's all well and good being competitive each year but you don't do yourselves any favours by giving away money

Sbisa is a head scratcher but love the Dorsett deal. I did not want to see another player with grit walk away for free due to money. We all know how much we missed Torres after he walked.
Either 1 of vets is sent packing this summer or Mathias is not resigned.

Let's just pray that Matthias doesn't get 5M per now.

Not at all surprised that both these guys were grossly overpaid but disappointed for sure. The cap hit is one thing but the term is very disappointing, I like Dorsett but he is a 4th liner and to commit 4 years to a player you should expect them to improve over that time frame and I have a feeling this year is as good as it gets for Dorsett.

Sbisa for 3 years well, I think I have been pretty vocal in my opinion of him so I will keep it short but at 25 and 340 games played, he isn't going to miraculously learn the position. I thought he had his best game of the season against the Kings last game but still see him as the worst by far of our top 6.

I'm thinking Mathias and Richardson are walking, with the kids canucks signed and subban needing a contract, gotta be close to the 50 limit by now

I love how Tanev had to keep proving himself with one year deals as an RFA before finally getting a contract he deserves and Sbisa as a pending RFA gets a contract that pays for his "potential"..wonder where I've heard that strategy before?

This year, being a 4th Liner doesn't mean what it means for other teams, though. 13-15 minutes a night is a ton of time, and they produced more than 'shut down' results. I don't know how I feel about the contract, but DD never took a night off; he reminds me a bit of Rypien, but with leadership and perhaps better hockey sense.

Mike Gillis 2.0

I wish. Gillis 2.0 would've gotten them to sign for less than they make this year. Of course they'd have NMC's but still

I forgot Richardson still plays for us. But Subban needs to get signed before draft.

He is avg 12 min a game which is much higher than the traditional 4th liner but he is still the 11th/12th best forward at the end of the day. I value his contributions and think he even deserved a raise on his 1.63 but getting 4 more years when he had a career year and likely wont improve is not good cap mgmt imo.

Really? Love Dorsett but giving a 4th liner 2.65 over 4 years is crazy. Now every canucks forward (Hansen, Matthias, Richardson, Kassian) will start their negotiation above Dorsett's 2.65.
- hertzman

We don't have 4 th liners we have 2 x third lines.

Prust Ott Neal all make that type of coin. He is one of the best 4 th liners in the league. He brings so much more than just fighting

Sbisa , I have been on his side all year glad to see him locked up also even at 3+ mil per.
