When everyone was injured he was our #2 D and he played great. IF it wasn't for him stepping up when needed we would be on the outside looking in. Comparing him to Stanton is a joke. He handled top minutes like a boss. Stanton never could.

I don't understand how you or anyone can call his play great. He is second worst in the NHL in goals against per 60 min of D who have played over 1000 min this season.....
He really isn't any good at the position, he can skate and he is willing to be physical but he makes so many mistakes. Some of that can be put on his deployment but it is also because he isn't very good. He doesn't create offense and he allows far too many scoring chances and goals against.

I don't know how you can love Bieksa and hate Sbisa . They are the same only Sbisa is 7 years younger.

Sbisa has made strides in the right direction this year. I think his play has improved ten fold over the last couple of months.

Hopefully he improves to be worth it. I just don't see the value when we have Bieksa for 1 more at 4.5, Miller at 6(i think lack has proven he is a #1 goalie now and Miller is trade bait) The cap could be put to better use for offense at this time.

Exactly . He makes big hits, he is a stay home Dman . Obviously WD and JB like what they see. He is in the line up every night and just got a big raise and a place to play for the next three years. The team must like something about him.

Bieksa makes more mistakes , is slower , and out of position more often. That said Bieksa is a very good 5/6 Dman

Who says I love Bieksa? When Bieksa was that age he had scored 12 G and had 30 A to go with his physical play and bonehead moves.

After 347 games (Sbisa has played 340), Bieksa had 34 G and 113 A ( Sbisa has 12G and 55 A).

Juice was signed to a 3 year 3.75 extension after the 12 G and 30 A season.
Sbisa extended to a 3 year 3.6 million extension after 3 G 8 A season.

I also don't think Kevin was as much of a mess at that point as Sbisa is as well.

I will point out again Bieksa and Pizza Boy are our 5/6 Dmen . I think that is pretty solid. We have not had a solid top 6 D group in years. I like this group

There's a very broad range of actions that lie between shooting someone to death and giving them 3.6 million dollars. I would say that both extremes are probably not the best decisions

3.6 million for a 5/6 dman is insane
I have no idea how you could suggest that Tanev who is at worst a #3 should make 3.5 and yet Sbisa who is at best a #5 deserves 3.6?
Right because hitting I forgot

We don't have 4 th liners we have 2 x third lines.

Prust Ott Neal all make that type of coin. He is one of the best 4 th liners in the league. He brings so much more than just fighting

Sbisa , I have been on his side all year glad to see him locked up also even at 3+ mil per.

- VANTEL

Completely agree. Dorsett would have gotten more in FA (probably 3). Did everyone think he would be signed for 2 mil? Sbisa is a very solid 5/6 who can wheel and is still growing as a Dman. Put him with the right partner and he could play in he 4 spot.

Canucks had a lot off different options (player) , and routes they could have taken ( UFAs) . I think they have a set plan of how they are going.

I'm fine with resigning Sbisa, but the most I could have tolerated would've been 2.5 and that with a very bitter taste in my mouth. His level of play is not high enough for 3.6. I like Sbisa and I think he has some potential but this could go very badly

I have no problem with this group as well, Sbisa has proved to be a bottom 6 guy, I just think he was overpaid when he was traded for and was included to make the cap work for Anh.

I can understand that.

Resigning a player for 3 more years at a raise makes no sense to me, I find it hard to believe that teams would be lining up to offer sheet Sbisa come the off-season. Why rush into this move?
I respect that Benning sees a player he likes and goes out and gets the deal done ( a la Miller, Vey, Vrbata) I just disagree with the price he is willing to pay those players, especially when I don't think the rest of the hockey market would pursue those players.

I will admit that Vrbata has worked out way better than I expected but I think in general Benning has overpaid for these assets.

I will repeat I think Sbisa is our 4 th best Dman.

Both you and I have absolutely no idea what was discussed in negotiations, who they are targeting, or who they will move.

So the overall picture is they have Edler Tanev and Sbisa locked up for 13.2 mil.that is fantastic.

Look at the overall picture.

Hockey moves...no more bargain seeking. Keep the players you like while maintaining flexibility where you can; draft and develop the rest
