Hartnell had a NMC, there was probably a shortlist of teams he would waive for. At that point, your limited on what you can get in return. Not that I don't think they could have or should have done better, just playing devils advocate. - funmaster18
The fact he was willing to go to Columbus speaks volumes as to how reasonable the guy was. |

The problem wasn't necessarily defense from forwards, but their lack of depth throughout the lineup. They have been a top heavy forward group ever since Berube took over.
The umberger trade really exacerbated the whole thing. - PhillySportsGuy
At this point the deal clearly looks bad. Only time will tell. Based on Umbergers poor season Flyers should've gotten a late 1st, lol. I hope Hartnell continues to do well, but Umberger scores 20 and the 4th rounder makes the club. |

Honestly, RJ was terrible last year for us. By the end of the year he was being a healthy scratch and was really struggling to crack our lineup. I don't see this year as a blip, but rather a continuation of that. - vertigo1061
Eh, he was looking a lot better the last couple months before his season ended. When he was playing it was a defensive role against the opposition's top lines alongside Couturier and Read. |

Well, everything is nice when you're comparing it to Philly guys, come on. Philly makes Pittsburgh look luxurious. |

It's true. But if you have a lot of money, which Hartsy does, Philly has a lot of luxury to offer. Still, Columbus seems like a good town. |

Pretty cool that McDavid said he looks to model his game after G. I was totally expecting him to say Crosby. |

My original comment towards Columbus had nothing to do with the city. It was about the Blue Jackets. Hartnell is in the late stages of his career and he has a better chance at the Hall of Fame then him winning a Cup there.
Nation Wide is an underrated venue though. I was 12 rows behind Scott Hartnell when he was being honored for his 1000th game. I still cannot believe he allowed Dubinsky to kiss his mom. |

Not sure about that, the Jackets have a good young team with a lot of the pieces necessary to be a threat in the upcoming years.
Bobrovsky has become one of the better goalies in the league, Ryan Johanssen is a flat out stud. They have quality depth on the roster in guys like Dubinsky, Anisimov, Atkinson and Calvert and very good youngsters like Boone Jenner, Marko Dano and Alex Wennberg, not to mention top prospects like Oliver Bjorkstrand, Sonny Milano and Kerby Rychel. They have a solid if unspectacular defense corp, too. |

Technically he wasn't a healthy scratch as he had an injury that has needed surgery since last offseason that he was trying to play through.
I blame management for not getting the surgery done earlier when it was clear he couldn't be an effective player with it but it probably had something to do with the cap.
I think Umberger has more left than he showed last year. How much more? I don't know. |

I don't think it had anything to do with the cap. The Flyers knew he had a hip impingement issue, which is not uncommon for players to play with. What they didn't know, which Umberger kept from the team, was that he had an abdominal injury that was pretty bad. When they found out about it, they shut him down.
I hope you're right, that he can get healthy, and play better

Mason is the reason that the Flyers can afford to be patient in developing Stolarz and or drafting another goalie to develop. He is the real deal. He is young and he can still get better. Look at the development of Carey Price. He had a big start...went backwards a bit, seemed to level off and then started to improve by leaps and bounds. A lot of it is mental maturity and just knowing the league you are playing in and knowing how to prepare to be your best in it. |

Was he injured while being a healthy scratch in Columbus? I am not sure... But if he was that is not good. Don't know cost to buy him out but I would rather see Cousins flying around out there ( or a younger player like him) who brings some intensity. RJ brought nothing at 4.6M |

So we traded a guy who scored 27 goals and 58 points this season to save a year on a cap hit. |
