Ottawa needs to get it done tonight. And how about Mark Stone, a f'n 6th round pick? - wolfhounds
Could it be possible I ALMOST could be rooting for the Senators when they play the Flyers? If it meant the Pens are booking tee times with the Flyers.........

Yup, if the Sens have a chance to knock a team out with a win against the Flyers, tough not to cheer them on. It should be a real fun game to watch. |

Could very well be 3 of them, Hanifin, Provorov and Werenski could all turn out to be legit #1 dmen. |

Welp, I'm pretty sure Berube already said that Mason is only playing 1 of the last 2 games. Gotta think Emery goes against the Sens.

This is true, and a kick in the teeth.
I would also look at the how and when Harts scored this year.
I think he had 8 goals in the first three months and something like 11 goals in the last month.
Now, Hartnell picked up as that team got healthy. Particularly around when Dubinsky came back and got his legs under him. so maybe while playing with a healthy G or whatever center on the 2nd line his early production would have been better.
But if his production would have been the same, we would have crucified him for that and I would bet he would have been moved at the deadline this year. Probably for more value, but still gone.
there is a lot more to that trade that I think we overlook. Expectations by management regarding some young guys etc. In two or three years we might look back at that move and say the Flyers are better for it. - nails
Its just not true.. Aside from his bad month of November Hartsy has been incredibly consistent this season. I hated that move from day one, and partially because I am biased. I liked Hartsy. He was fun, pretty much a guarantee to score 20-25 add 20-25 assists, kill it on the PP and was a fan favorite.
If you wanna move him, move him. But no way is bringing RJ on in that trade a good idea.

Hartnell's fitness -- or lack thereof -- was reportedly a concern. However, aside from Simmonds and sometimes Brayden Schenn on the power play, the Flyers leave their opponent's low slot unchallenged. It's no wonder scoring is down for them when they don't make it tough on opposing goalies. "You can't stop what you can't see," it is often said. Opposing goalies have seen a heck of a lot this year with no one parking out front. They have refused to crash the net, either as a group or via instructions from the coaching staff. - Flyskippy
Yessir.
which is why it has been a huge mystery as to why Raffl wasn't used more. He seems to go to the net well.
I think that trade was predicated on Schenn becoming a bonafied left wing on the top line and Cout becoming a 20 goal second line center. Obviously neither happened.
At the same time, Raffl would have never gotten the chances he has if Hartnell was still here I don't think.

Hartnell had 8 goals between October 8 and Jan 14.
And I didn't say I like the trade right now, but in a couple of years, I might not look terrible. |

maybe Hanifin, but unlikely. Probably not worth it anyway.
I wont be mad if we take one of those three, but I prefer Strome, Marner, Barzal.
I know if Hanifin is on the board they are gonna take him though.. I can feel it in my plummmms |

Its not the fact that they traded him that bothers me. Its the return.
We traded for a guy who was a buy-out candidate. Most people thought he was gonna get bought out, and we trade out top line left winger for him...
Id have rather had a draft pick. You put Hartnell of the block around the TDL and you get much more than RJ Zomberger. |

I was just wondering if maybe they keep their high first and try to move a player, the Tampa first and maybe a first next year to move up for a D man as well. Just seems like this draft is so forward heavy that if an unflashy but quality D man is there he might slip a bit. |

Absolutely. You won't get an argument from me there.
But who knows, maybe it was hartnell that was the problem there.
For all we know, hartnell gave a list and columbus offering umberger was the best deal available.
Now, if that is the best deal, then I just walk away if I am the GM. But, maybe Hexy was trying to do what Chief was asking for. Or snider. who knows with this team. |

Probably not, but it's extremely rare for a dman to come in and make an impact as an 18 or 19 year old. It's why I think Ekblad deserves the Calder this season, what he has done is much more impressive, IMO, than anything any of the rookie forwards have done.

Agreed.
I wish they had found a way to make a deal last year.
although, playing with this D group may have been disastrous for a 19 year old. |

(I know there's a new blog, but...)
Keeping Hartsy has a ripple effect. Raffl could've played LW on 2nd line while Matt Read sat out with the high ankle sprain. Akeson could've played with them until Read healed. Or maybe they could've tried Schenn at RW with 12 & 14 sooner than April. Good coaches find a way to maximize a roster even ones as bad as the Flyers'. Because their forwards have talent. It's defense where moving garbage cans don't have much difference, except for that whole scratching of MDZ in December. |

It's been hinted that Hexy & Berube both didn't really like Hartnell, so they figured addition by subtraction was better than keeping him. Bad move no matter how you look at it. |

Not sure about that, the Jackets have a good young team with a lot of the pieces necessary to be a threat in the upcoming years.
Bobrovsky has become one of the better goalies in the league, Ryan Johanssen is a flat out stud. They have quality depth on the roster in guys like Dubinsky, Anisimov, Atkinson and Calvert and very good youngsters like Boone Jenner, Marko Dano and Alex Wennberg, not to mention top prospects like Oliver Bjorkstrand, Sonny Milano and Kerby Rychel. They have a solid if unspectacular defense corp, too. - Jsaquella
They've had the same roster since Nash was traded. |
