Well, Jake was a #7 pick, so I'm not sure why he was mentioned at all. Regardless, Top 5 picks are always preferred but the draft is an inexact science therefore quality players can be found throughout. But the odds get long once you're out of the first round. - wolfhounds
The reason Voracek was mentioned was because the Flyers would be trading their two first round picks to move up, and one of those picks is going to be in the area of the 7th pick, similar to where Voracek was chosen, and to illustrate my point that the Flyers can possibly get a top player with that pick.

Bill you are in that locker room. Do you think the flyers are willing to move streit this summer because they believe del zotto can man the PP1 role? Would they still need to count on his leadership? To me giroux Simmonds and voracek are battle tested veterans and with voracek supposedly having a bigger voice in that room. Maybe streit can be purged to acquire that piece in the draft your talking about |

I think if/when he continues it through next year, he'll finally earn some recognition. Numbers geeks love things that happen three times. It's, like, the scientific method or something. - BulliesPhan87
True, but a lot of the doubters aren't numbers guys. A good number of the analytical folks that shredded him for his Columbus days admit he's been great and deserves praise.
It's knuckle draggers like Milbury, Roenick and even Keith Jones who are disregarding him and his play |

That's true, but unfortunately, the wins and losses matter to the national media. If you post those numbers, while playing on a top team, you get the notoriety. I've often said that national media can't watch every game. They analyze from afar. If they watched Mason game in and game out, there would be a different vibe about him.

I'm curious who, outside the McDEichel, they would value so highly. It seems a steep price to move up a few draft spots. |

It's been said that Eddie Van Halen was "angry" during the Fair Warning sessions and you can hear it in his playing. It's why that album is so great.

Yep, and now I'm listening to that cd, cranked up to 11 |

I offer this with the caveat that I know very little about any of the players in this draft. I just think that 2 very good players, is better then one star player.

I think it makes sense to move him now because realistically they won't be cup contenders for a few years still. That said some argue he is there to mentor all these young D men coming up, which I get... But that is what the coaching staff is for.
They probably won't move him because the front office thinks this can turn around sooner than most of us do. |

If they are at 7, I don't move. At 7, you're going to get a shot at one of Strome, Marner, Barzal, Hanifin or Provorov.
If the draft goes McDavid, Eichel, Hanifin, Strome, Marner as most suspect, then they'll have a 50-50 shot at Barzal or Provorov, either of whom could be in that group of 5. Provorov was a late riser and Barzal started the season hurt, and couldn't match the gaudy stats of Strome or Marner. Even if they miss out, there's still plenty of good names that will be there at 8 or 9. - Jsaquella
I would stay put if I were them. I'm thinking they want to trade up and get a high end forward prospect to go with their D prospects.
Strome definitely fits the mold of what they look for in a forward when they draft. |

I trust Streit with that responsibility more than any current coaches we have. |

I agree. I misunderstood your earlier post about Top 5 picks and G and Jake.
In other draft years perhaps moving up makes sense because the pickings get slim later in the draft, maybe even later in the top 10, but this upcoming draft class is supposed to be incredibly deep. I figure that's the one you want to double-dip in. Either way, it will likely be an interesting draft day for us Flyers fans. |

I'd be standing pat as well, with an eye to possibly trying to move up with the second pick, if it's in the late 20's, maybe to jump into the teens for a shot at a guy like Konecny or Chabot.
But in terms of sliding from 7-9 to 3-5, I wouldn't. You're going to get a comparable player without moving up |

I do as well but it looks like Ghost and Morin might not even be here next year so really all they'd get with Streit is the 2016-17 season. I'm not sure if I'm going to hold up acquiring a 2015 1st over that. |

If the standings stay in place at the bottom and Buffalo does not win were looking at Arizona with the 3rd pick. To me that just screams potential trade. |

They should take Strome. They need a 1C to build around. |

Maybe I'm looking at the wrong analytics guys or I'm seeing what I want to see, but the only change I've seen is from laughing at the Flyers to just plain ignoring Mason. |

Broad Street Hockey was highly critical of Mason and his extension, and they ran a "We (frank)ed up" piece. James Mirtle tweeted a couple days ago that Mason deserves Vezina consideration |

I expected Milbury to pant his foot squarely in his mouth, but I did find it disappointing that Roenick and Jones didn't even have time to even give their former club the courtesy of a double check. |

Roenick is a watered down Milbury. Jones, IDK, he's watched Mason all year long, and the best he can do is sit there silently or offer backhand compliments...NBC's analyst team, outside of McKenzie tend to really suck |
