I personally am hoping we play the Flames and rekindle that rivalry (pun intended).
I give the nucks the edge in goal.
I don't know about the D (is Gio going to be back for playoffs?)
And although i like the Flames depth in regards to scoring, I give the edge to the nucks forwards, based on experience. If we can shut down/rattle their young players, i like our chances. - dbot
Yup I'd love to see that series...just like old times

In order to analyze the contract of Sbisa we need to look at the actual contract. Since Sbisa was an RFA in order to qualify without arbitration he would have needed a 10% raise. The raise is based on actual salary on the final year of contract and not cap hit. Sbisa made 2.9 last year that means at min 10% raise it would have been 3.19. His actual salary for next year is 3.2. Lets say JB only signed him to 1 year "show me" deal at 3.2, then for next year Sbisa would be at 3.5 and his current salary is 3.6. By the third year he would have become a UFA coming off a 3.5 cap hit looking for a raise. In 2 years time lets say the cap only goes up by 5 mil. That would mean Sbisa would have garnered well over 4 in the free market in year 2017/18. but is currently signed for 4 mil. This is a gamble from JB who knows the UFA market is bloated and Canucks current cupboard for D is bare. Could he have gotten another D with the same skill set at the age of just 24 for 3.1 next year? The answer to that question is absolutely not.
I am not a fan of this signing but coming from an auditing background I like to analyze and see more then what the numbers show and I feel I should change my initial reaction and see this signing as a good investment. - Linden_4_Capt

ha. afraid not. I actually left at a young age and have never had the patience myself. Although i have vicariously enjoyed your stories of fishing around the Bulkley valley.
I'm in New Zealand now, just waiting for someone to offer to take me diving for shell fish.

If you even end up in Kaikoura on the south island there is a nice beach called meatworks if I recall correctly and its a good spot to go after Abalone.

Very well done Linden. Sbisa only got a tiny bit more than what he was guaranteed. Really it came down to paying him his raise or trading him. He's getting 100k more than his 10% raise basically.
So it is more of a debate of why we kept him since he was signed for almost as little as Benning could have offered him. The term isnt long at all. No NTC...

Where abouts are you in NZ? - belcherbd
Yeah, haven't made it down to the South island yet this time around.
I'm up in Auckland with the rest of the suckers, it's a nice city, but if it wasn't for the job/schooling, i'd be outta here in an instant.

I think essentially the debate comes down to if you like the player or not. I think most who are not a fan of Sbisa felt that whatever contract he was resigned at would be too high.
Time will tell as with everything, maybe this contract gives Sbisa a big confident boost and takes his game to the next level. I'm pretty clearly in the anti-Sbisa corner but he did play a great game against LA, hope he keeps it up.

I did not realize his salary was $3.19. If that's the case, the only way we get him for less is taking him to arbitration and trying to pay him less. If that's the case, this is pretty much a standard re-up at a reasonable price for a decent term. Can't really hate on that.
