If you are booted in either the 1st or 2nd round, you're put in a pot and regular season standings prevail. If you're a regular season division leader, you will have one of the last picks in that group of 12.

So if Montreal loses in the 1st or 2nd round, they will have a pick somewhere around 25-26.. same with the Blues.

..and yes I know wpg owns the latter of the 2 picks.

Agreed. Although if they win tonight they would have a shot at a division spot if they beat Buffalo Saturday and that would mean the difference of playing Rangers or Washington for them. I would imagine they would play hard for that Saturday and not rest anyone right?

They'll play hard because that's what hocky players do. The coach can't rest players because of all their injuries.
