From the last board:
60s and 70s HST was brilliant, afterwords, he was pretty hard to read.
As an aside, Ralph Steadman, the artist that did all of the illustrations for HST, does the labels for Flying Dog Ale (Colorado Brewery) and for a Cali winery (can't remember which). If you are a fan of his art style they make pretty cool souvenirs.
Edit:
It's Bonny Doon Vineyards. The first bottle of wine that I ever had. I bought it for the label and have been going strong ever since. - CubanBuffet
Been a fan of Steadman from the beginning! "The Curse of Lono" is one of my favourites because of him. I have a couple of his own books as well.
Thompson started losing his edge in the '80's. A mad genius none the less.
Pretty excited about the Canucks/Flames match-up!! |

gave up on? they didn't give up on anything. he couldn't handle the fact that they were rewarding other young players that worked harder and had a better attitude. he told them he wasn't going to sign with the flames after this final year of his entry level ran out. sven couldn't handle not being given everything right off the bat.
look at the success the young players on the flames have had this season, from first liners to fourth liners and everywhere in between, and then tell me if you think sven wasn't given an opportunity, or didn't take advantage of the opportunity he was given.
i had high hopes for him, and i still think he could turn into a full time nhl'r, but in all honesty, and i'd say this to anyone who picked him up, not just the "hated" canucks, but if you're counting on sven for a specific role, you should have a backup plan. - chester97
Heard all of that and I believe it. He's a young guy, call it maturity, being spoiled, personality conflicts, whatever. VAN is not going to hand him the job he has to earn it. Maybe he learned from his experience in CAL. |

if he learned and it all goes well, then you probably got yourself a solid top 6 guy for the future. only way to find out is wait and see i guess |

I remember Burkie calling a press conference just to publicly call him out. That was the beginning of the end in my opinion. |

I heard Sven told CAL he wasn't going to sign when his contract was up. Not saying this is the case but Burkie has had run ins with players before (RJ Umberger). Maybe his coach in the AHL didn't like him, I don't think Hartley did. At the end of the day he has to play a 200' game and listen to his coach, he doesn't have to like him, just listen.

I have grown to like Burke, he should be good for a few one liners when the playoff series starts, you know someone is bring Sven up a some point! |

Yessir. Figuring this was back in July before seeing them even play. I do admit though to knowing a bit about WD

There you go, didn't he try to trade for him when he was in TO? I think Burke does it because he sees potential and gets frustrated when they don't meet expectations. |

i know that's the typical reasoning, but i think burkie has softened a bit on that one now. i mean look at the flames...we are not a truculent team this year. they're based on speed and skill and taking risks. i mean bouma throws the body around but he's not the heaviest hitter out there. so size isn't the requirement anymore, it's all about commitment, and that seemed to be what sven was lacking. but that can be found again, i'm sure. |

yep
without these guy with a bit of personality and flair, all the interviews would all sound like the same boring canned answers. I'd like him more except I am a little jealous of his mane. |

He drafted him in Anaheim, then didn't let him play for team USA. That worked out well. |

I don't mind the Flames as long as they aren't playing the Canucks. Hudler has been great, would have looked good in a Canucks uni. Not sure if Hudler or Gaudreau would have been Burkie's sort of player but he seems to be letting Treliving do his job and getting good results. |

Not really that fussy on VAN & CAL playing each other in the first round, I like them both, one will get bounced. There is a good pool of Canadian teams this year! Nevertheless it will be a exciting series I'm sure.

Let me be the first to ask this...........
ahem...................
No matter what happens, will the thousands of kids who suddenly appear at 72nd and Scott Road in Delta to celebrate every playoff win, go home. |

Like Linden is with Benning. They are both great talent evaluators. |
