I have a very well known sports doctor in my team - I coach a teenage footy team & he is a father of 1 of the players, & we were discussing concussions last week. Here in the pro sports they are all afraid of what's happening in the NFL & NHL.

He said that no matter what the teams or organisations want to do, it is the doctors livelihood & reputation that is first in line. Do you honestly think that a doctor will jeopardise his future in a situation like that? He for 1 would not & he commented that he didn't think there would be too many if any at all that would.

They have done it in the past.

But my response was to a post that suggested letting Hoff return because he's a UFA and he isn't our problem going forward.

Glad we made it. Strange feeling this year, stumble in and we are all a little apathetic to the cause.

We want them to do well, but deep down find it hard to believe they will win the first round.

Either way its nice to make the playoffs with a roster that is bad but can win a game or two.

A couple of bounces for and we may get lucky.

Still lets keep fighting and see what happens.

The off season will be fun, we have two though processes as fans.

Those that want depth from trading a key piece and those that want to fix the depth with moving smaller pieces.

What I think we all agree on is we don't trust this management in its direction or process.

Lets go Pens.

Fleury gets red hot.
Malkin or Sid take over a game or three.
Scuds doesn't clear the puck through the slot.
Couple timely/lucky bounces.
PP doesn't allow SH goals.

We might be able to push it to 5

Two solid pieces but not something you trade Geno for...trying to think of who to add that would make sense. plus they are both centers. I dont see them trading their 2 and 3 centers...although we could send sutter back too

A - you don't trade Malkin, but any conversation with Winnipeg starts with Byfuglien and Scheifele. Plus with Big Buff starting the last year of his contract you better add in picks or prospects.

B - Winnipeg is a small market and a bad weather town, they simply cannot afford to give up picks, prospects or young talent like Scheifele.

Its a mistake to let any player that isn't medically ready play as we are starting to see leagues and in the near future organizations held accountable for player health.

That's exactly what I think champ. But this is not the norm.

I didn't say I wanted to let a guy play through a concussion just said it happened before and will happen many times (less than before though) in the future.

Letang has little trade value. He had very little after his stroke and now with concussion issues it's basically nothing. He very well could never play again. That's the reality that he and the Pens are facing. Not sure they can even approach the offseason as if he will ever be in the lineup again.

Nah, we're gonna come out, win the first 2 games on their ice, get EVERYONE really hopeful... then lose four straight and be out in 6.

This Penguins roster is probably the worst playoff team I've seen in years. If they were to win more than a game, it would be because the NYR messed up badly.

I like it. No disappointment this year. I think we all agree if they can strech it to a game 6 we'd all be ecstatic about that. I've been sick of the "OMG, the blue jackets/islanders/senators may beat us of years past. I like the under dog feel this year. If by some chance they go on a run the fan base will be more thrilled than ever as we do not feel "entitled" to a lengthy playoff run. And If they go out in 5, we all expected it anyways.

Ive said it before, I dont think Sutter is a bad hockey player, he's a bad 3C in a shutdown role which is what the Pens desperately need. I think in a 2C role he would be fine somewhere else.

So 87 didn't win the r PTS race, only 3 pts behind but played in 5 less games with a never healthy team.

Im excited for the NASH/CHI series and MINN/Hawks. That will be good hockey. Wild are my dark horse this year.

I think you're being a little over dramatic here.... If Letang was a patient in my office, I would do the exact same thing for this reason alone.....

Less than 1% chance of winning the cup this season.... take your time coming back.... I just can't see him not being able to take contact by early June.... but I'm sure ownership doesn't see this team still playing in June unless Fleury can post another 10 shutouts between now and then.

71 gets to decide where he goes, pretty sure PEG is not on his high list of destinations.

What do you think the odds are of someone with 4 concussions in 16 months returning to the activity and not getting another concussion? If I were the Penguins I wouldn't play him again until next March, if ever.

If I were 58 I would highly reconsider my career path at this point. I love watching the dude play and he's been great, but you can't watch 50 yr old NFL players with dementia and wonder if this is my future.

Dude should seriously consider hanging it up if he wants to lead a normal life. I'm sure he will still feel some effects to some degree. One more hit and it might not be pleasant.

I would do the Savard/Pronger thing if I were the Pens with Letang.
