My demands are very simple....

1) Trade Grossman and Matt Read. These players are overpriced luxuries and, in reality, dime a dozen players. I know everyone has a soft spot for Matt Read because he was our "diamond in the rough" college UFA signing. Neither of these guys are bad players. They simply make too much money for what we are trying to do with our current cap situation.

3) Explore trading Mark Streit. I would almost certainly move him this summer because I think we could get a great return on him. He's our most talented Dman but his age and contract cant be ignored. I'd explore moving him now when someone may still want to bite. The return has to be worthwhile though. You don't trade him for the sake of doing so.

First of all, Matt Read isn't a luxury. He's one of the key players on this team. The fact that he was hurt for most of the year, was a big factor in why this team failed to make the playoffs. That's how important he is to this team. He's a bargain at what he's paid, for what he brings to the team when he is healthy. It has zero to do with having a soft spot, and far more to do with looking at the actual value of the player.

I think the Flyers should keep Streit, to keep having to put too much responsibility on any of the younger defenseman.

I'm all for Sutter if he is available. Pretty much been very successful at every stop in his coaching career. I really don't know wtf is going on in that locker room. Lombardi would be a fool to get rid of him, but all the core is signed long-term so easier to replace the coach with a nice guy like John Stevens.
- ravishingone

Sutter would be great and Hexy would probably be able to get him too.

I've been hyped on Barzal ever since he came back from the knee injury and I accepted the fact that we won't get Strome.

Barzal is the kind of player that will raise the game of the players around him. He's exactly the kind of guy they need at 2C. Then they can roll out Couts at 3C where he belongs and have three strong lines.

- TheGreat28

I want Barzal or one of the top three D men and then move up for Zacha. I'm not sold on us getting the value we want out of Tampa's pick if it falls past 26.

Rantanen would be a solid choice at 7 as well but we have a ridiculous log jam going on at RW. Jake, Simmonds, Read prefers RW, Schenn looked his best ther this year, Aube-Kubel is in the system...

They very well could pick him. But I think if they do, he would have a giant bulls-eye right on his back. More so than some of the other players they could pick. Because here is this kid, who is big and can skate, but hasn't produced at a junior level one would think befitting a high first round pick.

And when he is scoring 15-20 goals a year while other picks taken before and AFTER are possibly scoring 30.....there will be backlash.

Now, if he is still around when they pick again...then you LEAP at him. (highly doubtful of course)

He suffered this year from team injuries. They were asking him to do too much.

True, but all the stats I have seen on him, he has never put up big numbers at any level. Not saying it is without reasons, but nothing suggests he will somehow start putting up bigger type numbers when he starts playing against men in the NHL.

i think read's injury troubles and subsequent difficulty replacing his role on the team shined a light on his value. i feel like it should have anyway

There's not many players that can produce 20+ goals, 2nd line level points at ES, while consistently playing in defensive situations, and checking top lines. Read's ineffectiveness was a big reason why the Flyers had a poor season.

I find Werenski pretty damn intriguing. Even though we are winning the lottery, for poops and giggles, i wouldnt be upset if they moved back a spot or 2, picked up a 2nd and took Werenski, Ranatan or Meir.

On the other hand there are more than a handful of experts that think he's NHL ready.

Okay, help me out.
Of the players that will most likely be available, regardless of position, when we pick someone help me fill these out:

1. Safest pick
2. Highest upside , biggest risk
3. Stretch

His size says he should be. I just worry that many scouts also say that he will need good players around him to be successful. The Flyers need a player that will make others around him better.

Maybe he is that player, but there seem to be plenty more who will be available at that spot who have a better chance to be that players who makes others around him better.

Safest: Crouse

Highest upside: Barzal or Provorov

Risk: Zacha, due to injuries and suspension, plus 1st N American season

Stretch: Meier, Konecny

That sums it up well on Crouse, for me. He's got skills, but tends to play to the level of his linemates. Hes probably capable of stepping in now and being a decent 3rd line LW

1.Crouse. Probably the most NHL ready outside of McEichel.
2.This one is tough. Where we are picking there isn't a ton of risk with any of these guys.
3. Zacha. Prior to this year everyone had him going top 10. He was hurt and had some suspensions, but he picked right back up scoring. I expect him to be gone by 12 but I think he could also go at 7.

That's why I think they take him. Because it's the most controversial pick they can make.

Yeah the highest risk/reward is Zacha. Kid could be like Nichushkin. Ton of natural ability, but injuries were a factor. Like him because he looked good at C & Rw
