Again, I agree. Are these two draftees better than Lindros who got dealt? poop happens. - jstross
Neither of these kids is likely to pull a Lindros. They will probably sign with whomever drafts them and start the clock towards UFA, or a massive deal at age 22 that sees them making $7mm a year |

Haven't heard any "don't draft me because I'm not playing for you crap" so that makes sense. I just think as good as these 2 may be there are some desperate teams out there. I don't think anything happens, but won't be surprised if it does. |

I would be, these guys are young, but they're still professionals. I think they both have level heads and understand that playing in the NHL is a great gift, no matter for what team. Also that the teams that pick them will be the teams on top of the league in a few years. |

Sorry for the cryptic post. I wouldn't be surprised if some desperate GM throws a kitchen sink type offer and the team in position 1 takes it. I cited examples earlier that shocked everyone and the team giving up the one pick or player won in most cases. |

Oh ya, I'd like Hextall to at least kick tires. Like I've said before, it's hard to overpay for these picks considering the prospects. |

It makes sense, because under the old system, such a tactic was easier to pull off. If Lindros had signed with Quebec, they owned him until age 31. There was no salary system, so he could have simply forced a trade to whomever offered him the biggest deal. Now there's a rookie cap.
Unless a team like Columbus or Dallas or Colorado wins, the team getting the top pick is going to have a lot of holes to fill and might not be close to contending. is it better to grab McDavid and build around him, or get other assets, some of who will cost more(i.e. veterans and guys in the later stages of ELCs)
It'll take two giant sets of balls to pull off a trade for McDavid or Eichel. |

I'm of the exact opposite opinion: I'd be stunned if a team made a deal like that because the assets it would take to pull off that deal might set the acquiring team back more years than McDavid would put them ahead. |

Let's just look at what it would take (at minimum) for the Flyers to attempt to get McDavid. I'm thinking along the lines of:
B. Schenn
Couturier
Both 2105 1st round picks
Simmonds
Sanheim
2016 1st rounder
If (big if) that's enough, you're losing your 22-year-old shutdown center, your next 3 2st round picks, your top goal-scorer and power forward, and the top defense prospect in your system, and, well, Schenn. That's quite a few holes (present and future) to fill in, especially considering you already have a top-10 scoring center on the roster.
I think the Sabres wouldn't even do that, they'd probably require a proven yet young first-line center coming back (Seguin/Forsberg/Monahan/etc.) to start talks. |

I would bet before the end of the week.
Hexy shows less of his hand and the organization will not embarass him so it wouldnt come quickly (unless you were not a former flyer)

We gave up Peter Forsberg, Mike Ricci, Kerry Huffman, Steve Duchesne, Ron Hextall, 1st round pickChris Simon and 15 million for Lindros. I dont think McDavid is as much a once in lifetime package like Lindros was and that stripped the franchise for years. Comparatively, though a generation apart, I wouldnt strip yourself like that for McDavid.

I think that's probably close to what Buffalo would want. If you're the Sabres, McDavid is a huge building block. If he's traded, you need to fill a ton of holes with the return.
I'd want Simmonds, Couturier, Sanheim, Gostisbehere and both 1st rounders this year, myself. |

The trade was Peter Forsberg, Steve Duschene, Kerry Huffman, Mike Ricci, Ron Hextall, Chris Simon, Philly’s first-round pick in 1993 and 1994, and $15 million in cash, for Lindros
