You don't think Provorov won't be there at 7th or 8th? To MacDonald's credit, he's 28, skates well and can move the puck up ice The Canes mix of defenseman are either entering their mid 30's or still have yet to reach their prime by being in their early 20's. I think the Canes need something to balance out that mix.

AMac is a 4/5 d-man on a quality team. Personally, I just don't think Francis, like the vast majority of those on this board, believes his talent is commensurate with his salary. And to drop two spots in the draft for him?

If you were Francis, and watched AMac performance this past year like we had, you would really make that trade?

Provorov won't make it to 7. Hanifin might but probably not.

Carolina moving back 2 spots and getting a decent aged number 3-4 defenseman couldn't hurt them at all. If they don't like the contract or the player, well it is what it is.

If I'm trading out of the top 5 I'm not doing it for a 4-5 defenseman with a questionable contract. I'm staying there and getting Strome, Marner, Provorov or Hanifin.

You can probably sign a better D in FA, for a similar or better deal.

Just take the best player and he'll make everyone around him better. Don't worry about position.

Honestly, if they take Hanifin, Provorov or Werenski, they almost guarantee themselves of having a strong blue line from 2018-2028. Thats a huge (frank)ing window to get some good forwards.
