I thought so and after the entire good feelins PR move made when Pat and Ted were brought back into the fold GMTM was not going to completely alienate the fan base by firing the rabidly fan favorite head coach. I'm sure he also knew knowing Nolan's track record of having little hockey sense that he'd be the perfect candidate to guide this team to the bottom of the pit subsequently cushioning the fan blowback once it was time to fire him. - BackSlider
Pretty much my thoughts about it too. |

As soon as Lafontaine took his net and went home Nolan was on borrowed time. He decided it was worth it financially to stick around for another year and get paid the next two regardless.
It's pretty clear Nolan and Murray didn't see eye to eye. Who cares if Murray wants one of his guys? If his guy is better than Nolan there is nothing shady about it. I find it amusing how people used to say loyalty gets you no where in sports but are complaining about this firing we all saw coming months ago. |

As an aside, the BN comment section is as bad as Yahoo's. So ugly.
I'm excited to see who we pick up as a head coach. They're going to go out and spend the money to get one of the best available. Considering what the Bills did already this past offseason I think the excitement for October is going to be through the roof. |

Correct, and it was by design.
Dave Tippett told his team to try and treat the last few games as playoff games. He and Maloney weren't on the same page, but Tippett still has a job.
Murray wants his own guy, and that's 100% fine. But to act like there isn't a degree of shadiness in this whole ordeal is kind of ridiculous IMO - sbroads24
If Tim Murray didn't break your heart and trade Tyler Myers there would be much less a degree of shadiness to this "ordeal" and would be much less ridiculous. |

How is it shady? Nolan is a bad coach end of story. Murray does not want him near the team he is building. Explain to me how that is shady. You've been anti Murray since he traded your boy.

If you listen to Murray's PC, you could tell He bit his lip on a lot of the questions he was asked. It is obvious he did not agree with a lot of what Ted did. |

I'm not the biggest Nolan fan ever, but I'm not exactly sure how anyone can say he didn't get shafted here.
Tim Murray made moves, several of them mind you, to make this team worse over the past 2 deadlines and 1 offseason.
He traded 3 good goalies (or goalies playing well) a 24 year old Myers, Stafford, Ott, bought out Christian Ehrhoff, signed over the hill veterans. His biggest acquisition was someone on IR for the season..... I mean come on.
This was the plan, and it worked. Nolan was a goner from the moment he was hired, and it was one of the reasons Buff19, myself and only a few others were against the hire from day 1. - sbroads24
I don't think Nolan was fired BC we finished last.
Seems to me the reason Nolan got fired is BC he & Murray just weren't on the same page. Clearly Nolan was pissed about the roster he had. For example, not having Pysyk up here. Murray was annoyed at how he was using the players he had here, Hodgson is a perfect example.
When this stuff is going on behind closed doors, I think it's still fixable. But when these comments start becoming public, then something is gonna happen.
And both were pretty passive-aggressively vocal from the deadline on. The writing was on the wall, and I think we all knew this was gonna happen.

Doing some listening/ reading.
Even some of the players are saying/said, Ted Great guy but there needs to be more to it than that. A more professional setup. |

I'm confused how some think we wont see a drastic change next year.
Just look at what will be added. McEichel, Kane, Pysyk, Reihnart "possibly". Then add in some good depth signings for D and possibly a trade for another top 6 winger.
ANDDDDDDDD a REAL NHL coach! I mean call me optimistic but I see us performing at the level the panters did this season. - Smittyx36
I really hope Pysyk is healthy |

so right now I am hoping the bolts win their series
the habs lose their series
the pens lose in 4
and the blues or islanders have a first rd exit - homiedclown
Right now, if there are no upsets our pick from NYi will be 21st.
Every upset (except chi v nash) moves us up a spot.
So I'll be cheating for the underdogs.
And I think they all have a chance except Pitt, they're getting swept. |

I can't believe I seriously have to break this down
Lafontaine quits, leaves Nolan here as an interim.
Murray extends Nolan ****knowing he is a bad coach****, strips the team (Buying out Ehrhoff, trading Miller, Ott) all moves that are intended to result in a last place finish...then fires him because he wasn't good.
Is it the right thing to do, absolutely and I'm glad Murray has the stones to do it. Is it shady, abso-freaking-lutely |

I can't believe I have to break it down to you. It's sports it's not shady at all ITS SPORTS. It's the exact reason Nolan wanted a 3 year contract. He KNEW he wasn't going to last.
You're saying its shady the rest of us are saying its sports |

Did Nolan get fired BC we finished last?
Or BC he & Murray weren't on the same page?
I don't think it had anything to do with how The team performed.
Once the two started making comments to the public it was all over. We all saw this coming. And it wasn't "shady"
They just saw things differently. Pysyk, Hodgson, etc
