who are the 5 you have behind mason? - rinaldo
I'd say Schneider, Luongo, Quick, and Crawford. |

in the list given the way it was, start at schneider and go back from there.
now, if we want to debate careers, then yeah. the order will be different. but if we are just judging on THIS season, its hard for me to believe that all 9 of those guys have had better seasons than mason has had this past year. |

he is RFA, they can offer him a 1 yr qualifying deal and if he doesn't like his only option is to sit out for a year unless they trade him - Marc D
Or sign an offer sheet from another team ...so yeah sitting out the year wont happen. |

Pierre LeMilbury does his awards blog
http://espn.go.com/nhl/st...ing-regular-season-awards
VEZINA TROPHY
The top goalie as voted on by the league's 30 general managers.
The candidates: Pekka Rinne, Nashville Predators; Devan Dubnyk, Minnesota Wild; Carey Price, Montreal Canadiens; Braden Holtby, Washington Capitals; Cory Schneider, New Jersey Devils; Roberto Luongo, Florida Panthers; Marc-Andre Fleury, Pittsburgh Penguins; Jonathan Quick, Los Angeles Kings; Corey Crawford, Chicago Blackhawks.
The skinny: I wonder if Andrew Hammond will get any votes even though he only played the final quarter of the season. It was a spectacular quarter, though. The Vezina winner is a foregone conclusion with Price, for sure, in line to pick it up for the first time in his career. The intrigue lies in which two goalies the GMs decide to vote as finalists along with the Habs star. My guess would be Rinne and Dubnyk.
Now, I'm not saying Mason should win the Vezina, but to not even be mentioned among the top 9? Ridiculous - Jsaquella

A team has to make the offer first. Del Zotto would not be guaranteed to receive an Offer Sheet from a team. |

It's a shame Ghost lost a year. I believe he makes the team next Fall anyway. While there's no substitute for minutes, it was probably just as important for him to gain a little more strength and size. Not too much weight as I recall the remark about not loading up a sports car. He strikes me as a quick study and with a year of observation under his belt, I think he's ready. The team will not be a serious contender next year so what's to lose by letting him cut his teeth ASAP? |

On the local sports talk - and I'm paraphrasing the broadcaster's brief summary - it was reported Vinny stated he felt his only chance to succeed in Philly was for Berube to be fired.
Is that L8 or did anybody else hear something of the sort? |

It's possible. But first, he has no guarantee that a team will submit an offer sheet. And secondly, the offer sheet would have to be enticing enough that he'd accept it. The Flyers basically hold all of the cards, at least for this year. |

That also leaves us two possibilities:
1) A team gets him on a decent deal, and we match it and don't even have to do the leg work.
B) He gets a significant deal, and we're looking at free picks |

One of the big things they wanted him to learn was how to play when he doesn't have the puck on his stick. Unfortunately watching can only teach you so much. I think he starts the year in the minors.
With Morin, keep in mind that in the Q he can simply bully guys. That's not going to be true in the pros, even the AHL. I think he needs some time to further develop myself. The last thing we need is another Luke Schenn - brought up too soon and confidence impacted. |

Lol, i guess i should have clarified, but the qualifying offer is not going to be high which means it will cost a team very little if any compensation to sign him to one. Basically with the year he has had I would vernture a guess that a team would offer him one, but again i could be wrong and noone does. |
