“@davegisaac: Berube also says that Sean Couturier's zone starts is "creating excuses" for offense not being what he'd hoped.”
This guy is not a good enough coach to be this big an bumhole this early in his coaching career. - feelingkettle
First remarks about Mason's record and now a knock on Couturier for his decisions to make Couturier start most shifts in the defensive zone. He's a meat head and he needs to be let go today! I'm tired of listening to him. |

its good that the guy they traded him for, Justin Williams didn't amount to much
oh wait - Marc D
They traded Williams for him! Which is why it's even worse that they let his awesomeness go for a 3rd round pick!

Honestly, that can be taken a number of different ways. Berube is the red headed step child right now. Anything he says is going to be criticized. I don't agree with completely dismissing deployment, because it is an issue. Couturier had a lot of chances this year, and he struggled shooting the puck. He had the opportunities to score 20 goals, and get to that 50 point mark. His linemates also struggled. I think it's more about challenging the player, and getting the player to focus, and to be more confident offensively. Not saying he is thinking that way, but having Couturier worrying about usage is not a good thing. Berube wants the player to be aggressive and confident offensively.

I don't know what type of relationship Hextall and Berube have work wise or otherwise but I don't want this to be drawn out because of misguided, mutual respect. If there is the smallest itch to fire this guy, scratch it. |

I think what pisses me off is that there is a difference between challenging a player and being an bumhole to him. Berube seems to step over the line repeatedly. I am not a fan of Torts-lite poop like that. |

Is he or anybody ever going to own the fact that they deployed an injured player on both of his wings, at some point?
Is that just something nobody wants to own? - AllInForFlyers

I love mine for Danny and because the number is my birth year, so even if someone asks derisively "Markov?" I can say "birth year!" and they leave me alone. - bodiva88

I think he could use different words there. It comes off harsh. He could be more diplomatic, to make his point. I think it's part of what Berube has to learn, because comments can get taken the wrong way when a team had a poor season. Every comment is going to be under the microscope. Hextall does a much better job of measuring his words.

Berube lacks any subtlety
I try not to read the media takes on his one liners but I think it comes off as brusque at best and an bumhole at worst

it's unfortunate, the injuries that lead to certain trades that year. williams became a better play in carolina. no question about that. i'm sure it would have happened here had they hung onto him. he would have been traded by now anyway. would he have been a piece to lead them to a cup? maybe. |

I'm starting to think he shouldn't be able to interact with people. We've seen these same comments towards players who might deserve it and some who do not. Lecavalier, Mason and now Couturier. For me it begun with a meat headed comment that slipped out of his mouth at a Ticket Holder's Meeting about Scott Hartnell after he was traded. It just sounded very classless, especially a player who was here along time, wore a letter and had a lot of success here. Heck, Hartnell should probably still be here. |

Raffl G Jake
Boedker Zacha Simmonds
Cousins Coots Read
VDV(or Straka/Leier) White PEB
Streit MDZ
Provorov/Hanifin or Werenski AMac
Morin Ghost (Sanheim knocking on the door)
That's what I'd like to see in two years. Im trading BSchenn for Boedker and a pick. LSchenn for a pick. Laughton to move up for Zacha and probably get back a mid round pick there as well. That leaves you a bunch of picks to address LW if you think you still need to. Line 2 adds a playmaker type in Boedker and a Sniper with Zacha. Coots runs the shutdown line. 4th line brings solid play. Forwards are set. Give it one more year and you'll have Sanheim coming in and Ghost and Morin expanding their roles. Begin the true playoff pushes.
D combos are totally up in the air. It will be a good three or so years before each guy could be in the role we want him to be IMO.
But all that said, they'll probably just take Crouse and a bottom 6 guy with Tampa's pick. |

Agreed. I don't think it's his words that are his only problem, but how he handles players. Seems like it's either his way or the highway. He comes off as someone who knows best with not much of a reputation to back it up. |

Hartsy certainly had a productive season in Columbus after settling in. And is seen as a leader there. At the STH meeting one of the brass talked about missing his locker room leadership "more than expected." |
