What coach isn't my way or the highway? I think a lot of stuff has been way overblown when it comes to Berube. I think he takes way too much of the blame, and I think there is a lot of baseless criticism of Berube.
- MJL

Sounds like you are creating excuses for him.

I don't see Bellemare becoming a 2nd line winger. I think his future is that of a role player.
- MJL

Its possible, but he's done a good job with everything he's been asked to do so far. I think he has the skill to play in the top six if given a chance.

Does it? I don't see it as excuses, I see it as how it played out, and what I've seen with this team. I personally think that the Flyers should make a coaching change. Is that an excuse?

Couturier is lacking pieces around him, is buried in tough situations: that's just excuses
Berube is lacking pieces in his line up, is buried in tough situations: he's a scapegoat

I don't know... hard to believe they'd harm our prospects just for sheer bravado.
- ThirdEye

I agree, but here is the thing: If Hextall agrees with Chief on Couturier -- and I have no idea if he does -- then really, how many prospects can he truly hurt next year?

I mean that like this: Only one prospect defenseman, at most, is likely to get a sniff at breaking camp. Depending on how they attack the offseason, it is entirely possible that only Laughton would be the young forward to break camp -- I can't believe they won't look for an outside solution for the LW issue.

So really...they could ride with Chief for the final year of his deal, if they truly wanted to.

No saying they should. But they could

“@davegisaac: Berube also says that Sean Couturier's zone starts is "creating excuses" for offense not being what he'd hoped.”

This guy is not a good enough coach to be this big an bumhole this early in his coaching career.

- feelingkettle

Has Couturier said anything publicly about making excuses or blaming his role usage for his production? I haven't seen it. And if it was said in meetings and Berube went public with it, he is an even bigger wienerhead than I thought.

I know he's super unpopular here, but I'm all about it. As long as we don't give up something insane for him... which we'd probably have to.
- ThirdEye

Wayne Simmonds, Milan Lucic, Scott Hartnell, Chris Stewart, Joel Ward, Shane Doan and Benoit Pouliot all are capable of the same role. Obviously one is better then the next. One produces more then the next. Some are older then the next. Most importantly, you could fill this role without trading anything this summer. Joel Ward and Chris Stewart are both UFAs. I wouldn't trade for Lucic.

Not talking verbatim, and word for word. I'm not aware of Berube talking about himself being scapegoated. In fact whenever he's been asked a question along those lines, he's basically said it's part of the job. One thing that needs clarifying is who is Berube saying is making excuses? Couturier or the media?

I think Looch is capable of a lot more than Ward or Stewart... but you're right. He just doesn't fit here with Simmonds being the beast he is. Lucic as a Flyer is a pipe dream for me.

I put myself in Ron Hextall's shoes. I'm not sure how you can evaluate this season, see how it played out, and not make changes. One of the easiest changes to make is a coaching change. I believe one is going to be made.
