I'd rather see this in two years
Raffl-Giroux-Voracek
PEB-Barzal-Simmonds
Read-Couts-Schenn
VDV-Laughton-White
MDZ-Schultz
Sanheim-Schenn
Morin-Ghost
Mason - aflyerpower8
I'd much rather see Barzal than Zacha. Can you imagine Zacha AND Rinaldo on the FLYERS?
It'll be a revolving door to the sin bin. |

Has Couturier said anything publicly about making excuses or blaming his role usage for his production? I haven't seen it. And if it was said in meetings and Berube went public with it, he is an even bigger wienerhead than I thought. - MBFlyerfan

You know, Giroux was something like 12th in the league in most D zone starts. Just saying. - TheGreat28
Probably take a defensive zone with Couturier out there with him just in case he was kicked from the draw. Once there was a clear break out, one of Couturier's line mates would more then likely replace Giroux. |

Good point. But in general, I do agree with Berube on at least this point. It seemed like there were plenty of times when his line got control in the D zone but didn't do much with the puck in the neutral zone, or once they gained the line.
Here is a question for the group. Looking for absolute fairness here. Over the last 6/7 games when Schenn and Couts were on the same line, who carried the play in the offensive zone - Schenn or Couts?
In other words, did Schenn raise Couturier's game a bit during that last stretch, or vice versa? |

We're talking about the coach, aren't we? - MJL
They go hand in hand -- if the coach didn't see how bad Umberger was, he is culpable
If the coach ever told the GM that the player couldn't get it done, and the GM doesn't make a move, then he is culpable
If neither of those happened, then they are both blind |

I would like to see if Couturier would be better if he had wingers like Bergeron instead of two guys who were injured all season long. |

Personally, too small of a sample size. I think Schenn was the better offensive player down the stretch, and the last handful of games. I think the line overall benefited from that. What we didn't have enough time to decipher, was is this something that would have a lasting effect, or was this just one of those hot streaks that Schenn has gone on before, only to be followed with an extended slump.
One thing I'd like to see is how many total shifts Couturier played at ES, and how many he started in the D zone at ES.

They don't go hand in hand. A coach can only play who he has available to him. If Umberger is one of the best 12 forwards the coach has available to him, he plays him.
We were discussing the coaches decision making, on who to play. Making roster changes is on the GM.

I watching the little broad cast based on Tim's points about Leadership and for me it goes back to what Hextall was saying about character in the dressing room. Tim mentioned missing Kimmo Timonen and Scott Hartnell were big losses in terms of leadership. Well, how much of a voice does the leadership group have if Berube isn't playing Lecavalier in a productive situation and Berube basically is the cause of Hartnell being traded? It sounds like Berube recommended Hartnell be shipped out.
I thought it was interesting the names being thrown out that the dressing room didn't have, as oppose to past years. Keith Primeau, Rick Tocchet and Mark Recchi. I think it might be the long time fans who do not like Recchi. Not only was he the best player of those three names, he was a respected leader too.
The point is, fire this guy. Allow the players a little wiggle room to work things out for themselves. |

Couturier had 25 points in 281 OZ Starts (.089 P/OZ Start)
Bergeron had 34 points in 385 OZ Starts (.088 P/OZ Start) - Feanor
Yeah, but you also need to see the points per DZ start.
And then compare Couturier to other 2C's. |

Also need to look at how many OZ, DZ, NZ starts that Boston had compared to the Flyers.
One problem I have with zone start data is that total shifts at ES also have to be looked at, for context. |

1. Streit
2. MacDonald
3. Schultz (Just re-signed)
4. Del Zotto
5. Grossmann
6. Schenn
7. Gudas
8. Manning
Is it wrong to feel like the Schultz signing might be a huge mistake? Judging by Hextall's comments today, it sounds like he's not against Morin playing next season at all, if he's ready. So even if Morin were ready (Not saying he is), how do you even fit him into the line up?
I now look at Scott Laughton after the Bellemare signing. What if we allowed Bellemare to walk in favor of Laughton?
