Still not sure why the players union would start burning crosses on Vinny's lawn and throwing rotten produce at him if he agreed to a mutual termination. - jmatchett383
Players walking away from guaranteed contracts because they're not "happy," and then signing somewhere else for less money? You don't see that as a problem for them? |

3 years for 11-12 works for me too
really the guy is coming into his prime years and I think has a skill set they need - Marc D
Agreed -- they don't have to sign him, and they certainly could trade him if they don't want to pay.
But I don't think they are getting any discount, and really, witht the way he played, he should get around $4 |

No. The players union should be doing everything in its power to guarantee its members being able to exercise all rights and privileges contained in the CBA that their representatives ratified. If you didn't want that to be a option, then why allow it?
Also, it's not like it's a precedent. If another team wants to make a player unhappy (see: Richards, Mike), then that player can either sit there and collect his money or take the same route. It's not like Vinny would be forced to terminate it.
Edit: I guess the union should be murdering Ryan Suter's family since he turned down more money from Philly to play where he wanted to in Minnesota. How dare he do what makes him happy, he might have cost somebody 0.014% on a comparable deal. |

If they do a 3 or 4 year deal I am thinking its around 3.5-4 a year. |

I agree with you on this.
Why should the Flyers have to get bent over, here? The player wants out. The team wants out.
But the team has to eat six years of cap hit or eat cash, so the player gets paid for services not rendered?
This isn't a case of the team trying to squeeze out a player. He doesn't want to be here, under the coach they have.
If the Flyers don't make a move on the coach, then what the hell are they supposed to do? Eat the cap hit just because the player says so?
If he wants out, there is an easy, immediate out. The door opens both ways. |

I know this won't be popular, but I'm not willing to give him more than $3M a year for 2 years based on ~65 games of fairly good play after being both waived and unprotected in the past 15 months. |

It's popular with me. 2 years at $3m a year is as far as I'd go with Del Zotto. His only leverage is holding out. |

so sad - Marc D
i do feel badly for him. guy was a player. he didn't sign up for this poop. i realize he needs to be better, the injury hampered him, but i believe he's still go something of value to give...maybe not as his cap hit, but still. |

I agree. If he's not happy with the compensation, he can play on another one year deal and hope to cash in with free agent leverage. |

i pay an annual fee to usa hockey which includes insurance. we don't participate in the nationals thing. i've never been in an adult league that does. i know NFG does on her women's team.
we're going up to colorado in 2 weeks for a tournament. fund raiser. that's enough for me.
we'd get killed in a nationals tournament anyway with the D i have. i need to be better, but still...when you have no reliable play in front of you, you start over thinking, and guessing....not good for anybody. |

Why should Del Zotto get as much per season as Josi? - Feanor
Because Roman Josi's stats are no better than Del Zotto's, career wise and considering who Josi's partner is, and Del Zotto has already paid a price for the stretch of poor play that saw him get nontendered.
You are not going to be able to justify not giving Del Zotto a market value contract based off one season of poor play when he has put up three 30-point seasons |
