If this were to happen, the media poop show would be high.

Another reason to not want it to happen, on my end

He's 37 years old, and he had a great career. He did some really positive things with the Flyers, came when they were at their lowest

But Father Time is undefeated, and Briere was probably done last season in MTL, tbh

Ha! Jagr is Father Time!

It's unbelievable how strong that dude still is -- Messier played for a long time, but he was a shadow of himself

I am just amazed at how physically strong Jagr still is -- his speed and even his endurance are all but gone. He has to keep his shifts short

But damn, is that dude still strong as (frank)

His current linemates were zygotes when he won his first Stanley Cup.

Here is your quote:

I knew it was untenable when Simmonds and Umberger both went out for the season and Berube played Nick Cousins as a center and Rinaldo on 3rd line while leaving VLC at 4th line wing.

When that happened, everyone knew this whole situation needed to end.

You insinuate Rinaldo and Cousins took over Umberger and Simmonds rolls when really the Vinny - Bellemare - Vandevelde line was the 3rd line.

White Cousins Rinaldo was a fourth line considering I don't think they played more then 10 minutes. White maybe more since he was on PP

- J35Bacher

Sorry I wasn't crystal clear to you. I apologize profusely and hope to be clearer in the future so you are not as easily confused.

I was trying to state that VLC not being used as a replacement for Simmonds or Umberger, and having a callup play center, spelled the clear end of VLC. Once again I apologize profusely that it wasnt clear to you and I hope you can move on with your life.

Seriously, I'm sorry.

I want to see them give Richards a non roster invitee type of tryout after he gets bought out by LA.

I would be very surprised to see any team sign him outright.

I dont think he makes the team, but I would like to see what kind of pride he has, and what kind of effort he would put forth.

- MBFlyerfan

Apparently not enough to keep his word after the end of last season and commit to fitness during that summer.

He used to be one of the more selfish players around -- when he left the Rags years ago to play in Europe, the thinking was "good riddance"

It's cool to see that he has matured a bit -- he's still an absolute mercenary, which is neither good nor bad -- and that he was able to evolve in a league where speed kills

I have the utmost respect for that guy's strength on the boards and on the puck

It also helps to be 6'2" 230lbs and be in incredible shape. That is big enough to kick father times ass well in to your 40's

You are probably right. I like him as a player and as a Flyer and am sad to see him at this point. 30 years old and pretty much finished.

Seriously, who would give him even a one year deal at this point?

That's the thing. You watch him skate, and you would never think he's just 30

I don't know if there's anything he can do about that. Maybe if he really wanted it, he could find some way to get past that. But that is the biggest impediment to him right now. He just couldn't keep up with the play over 200 feet

I could see a low cash one year deal, but it was really ugly when he came back. He played poorly and didn't seem to have a lot of intensity.

Yes -- probably third-best player I have ever seen, behind Gretzky and Lemieux, and I have questions about how Gretzky would have fared in today's game, which features better goalies and bigger players

Not saying he wouldn't have put up points. But I have questions about how many

i realize im biased, but i still think when you look back on the tape and highlights, there were things that mario could do that simply no one else could do. ever.

in a way, i respect gretzky more, because he did more with less physical gifts. but if im asked who was the most talented hockey player, im going with 66.

I have questions about how Gretzky would've fared in the 50s which had worse goalies and smaller, slower players.

Not saying he would've been unstoppable, but I have questions on who could have stopped him.

Gretzky had amazing vision and fantastic hands, but imho, Lemieux was a better all-around player. Were I starting a team and had those two to choose from as my first pick, I go with Lemieux.

yeah. i agree. but like i said, to be fair, mario had so much more in his toolbox. its a testament to gretzky's cerebral superiority to virtually everyone that he became what he did.

i do think lindros doesnt even enough credit, simply because his prime was cut short. he had that stretch where he was an absolute monster. hes another one, who just had so many physical attributes, and had some nastiness to use it as well.

I understand what you're saying, but I do think it's valid to acknowledge that differences in era do matter

Gretzky's gifts weren't physical, so it's just a comment about how not everything might not have translated as well in this era

Or Bernie Parent or that guy who Gretzky called the best goalie he ever faced...What was his name?
- jmatchett383

Hextall was such a leader for the Flyers - even in his insane rookie season when he almost took them to the cup! Sure he overreacted and made foolish decisions when seeing red - but no one questioned his intentions about standing up and defending his teammates - Propp retaliation on Chelios - was amazing, etc.
