I understand what you're saying, but I do think it's valid to acknowledge that differences in era do matter

Gretzky's gifts weren't physical, so it's just a comment about how not everything might not have translated as well in this era

- AllInForFlyers

Thinking about it a little after I wrote that, the strength of his game was his vision of what was happening on the ice. Honestly, I think that would translate just as well to any other era. Slower, smaller players or bigger, faster players I don't think it would matter, he'd still find them and be as dominating as he was in his own era.

I still find it unbelievable that had Gretzky never scored a goal he'd still be the all-time NHL points leader.

How bout the Hawks. Looks like vermette could be a healthy scratch game 1. 3 assists 0 goals in 17 games. Between the corpse of kimmo and vermette. That's throwing away the top half of a draft for not much

2nd PP had two corpses at forward most of the year. Playing Umberger in need of surgery when they knew in the offseason he needed it puzzles the heck out of me.
- bodiva88

They knew that Umberger had thje hip issue when they traded for him. It's an injury that players commonly play with. The abdominal injury is what really did him in, and Umberger kept the severity of that injury from the Flyers.

Over the past few days I've seen a lot of people posting lineups without Umberger or VLC in them. I understand that this is what people would like to see, but it really isn't realistic.

I can see Vinny and the Flyers parting ways, in one way or another. If it's in a trade, it would definitely require salary retention (at least half) and hope that he holds to his words from earlier in the season where he said that he might retire after one more year. I'm doubting this whole mutual termination business.

Other than that, I really don't see a scenario where Umberger isn't in the lineup in the fall. Maybe they treat him the same way that they did with VLC and plug him on the 4th line, but as of now, he's the other 3rd line winger that we're dealing with.

Thanks. I was going to make this same comment.

Just another example. Be very wary of players collecting numbers on poor teams

I think there are ample leadership type players currently in the room. I realize we don't see who leads what way, but counting G, Jake, Streit, Vinny, Schultz, Simmonds, and Umby that should serve as an older core to lead the team.

This doesn't include Mason, who has lead by example this year.

It's hard to say whether there are or not. None of us are privy to what goes on in the locker room so it's anybody's guess. It does seem like there is a overall lack of leadership necessary to get this team in proper focus too often.

Leadership doesn't necessarily come from age or talent.

It's also one of those things that is totally dependent on overall team talent

Mark Messier missed the playoffs the last six or so years of his career, with two different franchises

You can't lead teams that aren't talented enough, in however many areas a particular team may lack

Was he really collecting numbers in AZ? He had 35 in 63 games. Highest total as a Coyote was 45 in 82 games.

For anyone who has the armchair GM itch, Eastside Hockey Manager is back with a $15 early release of their new iteration of the game on Steam. It's considered the best hockey manager sim out there and there are already a bunch of roster, face, and logo packs so you can go really in depth with prospects and European FAs and all of that good stuff.

Anyone listening to Missanelli per chance? I usually don't, but he's trolling Flyers fans pretty hardcore today and I just keep yelling at my radio. He's mocking the idea of patience and waiting for players to develop. It's like he thinks he's doing hockey fans a favor by talking about hockey on an annual basis even though he has no idea what he's saying. It's embarrassing.

Nice! May have to give it a try again. Played it a few years ago, and had a lot of fun with it.

He's made a nice living trolling Flyers fans. It's not a new thing for him.

It's what he does.

You should do yourself a favor and stop listening to sports radio. That poop will rot your brain.
