god i hate him so much. but i still cant help being tempted. i dont know. - stayinthefnnet
I wouldn't add Lucic. We are weak at LW but he has a 6 million dollar cap hit and I don't feel like he plays up to this. |
|
|
|
It is, especially if you don't think you're going to re-sign him
My hesitation is that I do fear getting a bit too small on the back end - AllInForFlyers
I think it's clear Grossman or Schenn will be moved. I'd take the best return I could get for either. |

i agree with you that the cap is a concern. and this year, he certainly didnt look motivated. i typically stay away from those players. i dont know if i would pull the trigger for him, but thats also because i hate him.
but you have to admit, when he is on, he brings an element that is absolutely ridiculous. its easier for you to not be so enamored by it, because you have simmonds. but lucic would be dynamite on the pens if motivated. |

hmm. taking the consistency factor into the equation. yes, i would agree. he also isnt a raging douchebag.
but, when lucic is ON, he has just a level of animalistic brute intimidation and mauling that simmonds just cant match. |

The highest the pick for Tampa can be is 22 which would be sweet, but not happening. For that to happen none of the division winners(just happen to be the only 4 teams with more points than the lightening) can make the conference finals. Obviously Tampa can't either. so 27-30 are the conference finalists. 23-26 would be the 4 division winners and 22 would be Tampa. - jstross
Not quite. If the planets align and the first round is filled with upsets, the Tampa pick could be as high as the 18th overall. Probably not gonna happen, but it's possible. |

Stupid question time... am I right in thinking that non-playoff teams can make trades any time now? The trade deadline is about playoff eligibility for players, right? I seem to remember reading that non-playoff teams (or eliminated teams) can make trades during the playoffs. I could be way off, though.

Simmonds has been consistently better since coming over from LA and getting PP time. |

yeah. ill give you the consistency factor. simmonds gives it his all every single second, lucic not so much.
all im saying is that when lucic has the bug up his ass to go all in, he has a gear that simmonds cant match.
hell i dont know if any power forward can match it.
but, viewing the totality of it, yes simmonds is the more consistent and more reliable player. |

In prospect news, Rimouski wins 5-2. Sam Morin finishing with four PIMs and a plus one rating. Also, Aube-Kubel had a goal and an assist with an even rating in a 6-3 loss to Baie-Comeau. Kelowna is currently up 3-2 on Victoria with Tyrell Goulbourne having no points and a minus one rating.

yep. they waited way too long to realize it.
but man, they need to get the ball rolling. i know the cupboard is pretty bad as far as assets that they can cash in, but you never know. first step is deciding to undertake it. sans (frank)ing amaro.
but from there, who knows? move hamels. would love to pluck one of boston/La dodgers top prospects, but that may be a pipe dream.
maybe harang can hang in there and be flipped. maybe revere at the deadline if a team wants defense and speed.
utley to an american league team at the deadline if his bat comes around.
papelbon for (frank)ing anything. |

Agreed on all...Hoping Utley catches fire after tonight and agrees to go to somewhere. Same for Howard, who has looked corpse like for most of the season so far |

howard they are stuck with i think.
hes just so mentally and physically done.
realistically, it takes at least 3 years to have a good turn around. im fine with that. i dont have any thoughts that theyll be good this year, but theyve been fine enough to watch. i dont mind watching young guys hustle and cut their teeth. i can take 2 years of sucking, cutting pay role and bringing in futures.
want to do what the braves are doing. granted, they had more pieces to sell off/already in the pipeline, but that mentality. the kimbrel trade. as much as it sucks to lose the best closer in the game on a great deal, it was genius. |

What was the deal with that?
They unloaded Kimbrel and the contract of BJ "Call me Mel because I get made fun of too much" Upton to San Diego for who? |

Just so we are clear.
Jody Hull didn't play here with Roenick, Primeau and Handzus were on this team together and he was a winger, not a center. In fact I'm pretty sure Lindros was still here. |

im not too familiar with prospects outside of the big, big guys anymore.
but they got a guy regarded as the second best prospect in the padres system. a high draft pick (which in baseball is a crapshoot, but its still something), maybin (a decent enough outfielder who can at least keep a someone respectable product going on the field), and another throw in prospect.
they had to take a smaller contract back, but ridding themselves of mel was literally huge. probably one of the worst 2 or 3 contracts in all of baseball. relatively scott free. thats a huge asset in and of itself for a budget team looking for a mulligan.
just even the logic behind it, i love. it sucks to part with kimbrel, but theres no sense having a stud closer on a 90 loss team. it takes balls and brains to acknowledge it, something the phils brass has none of. |
