From a Flyers source concerning Berube:
Philadelphia Flyers' General Manager Rox Hextall will be holding a press conference at 2 PM EST to address the media, where it will be announced that Craig Berube will be returning as human being of planet Earth. - jmatchett383

That could easily be the case.
Furthermore, they won't have to pay him for doing nothing next year. His job will be "designated fall guy" until the coach that Hextall wants becomes available. - johndewar
And even more so, you are saying that if you fired the coach, you gave him a roster that should have done better
But it's debatable another coach gets a lot more out of this team, in this regard: You had already had a top 5 goalie and PP, two Top 10 scorers...and missed
What if you give Berube the shiv, you hire another guy, and Voracek slips to 65 points, Mason's GAA and SVPCT go to 2.60 and .915, Simmonds gives you 22 goals and 40 points, and you get what you have always gotten out of Brayden Schenn?
Yep: Not only are you shifting that target your way, as the GM, people will be sour about all the poop the new coach did that (frank)ed up what was already working
This is just a tricky season because you don't KNOW that Schenn and Couturier are more than they are, and if you are sitting there at 80 points next season, then what? |

That sounds like a lateral move at worst. |

For so many reasons, I think they are in a tough spot with this coach and roster, because you probably should blame both, but it isn't guaranteed that if you turf the coach, the roster comes through
I mean, seriously: if you are Ron Hextall, are you sitting there saying somebody is getting more out of Luke Schenn, Wheels and MacDonald?
The best players on the team had great seasons, statistically |

IMO, you make the change, even if it doesn't translate to more wins, because you want the kids developing under a competent eye. |

If Berube is retained then you can consider this the Matthews tank 2015-16. Expect a few trades at the draft. No significant UFA deals. A lot of the same on D and no jobs to be won by the young guys in camp.
Enjoy watching the coach continue to retard the young guys development. Good for Ryan White when he gets first team PP minutes all season.

I refuse to believe but this is in the back of my head as well. I just don't see how they could ice a similar product next year. At least a coaching change gives us hope. However, I believe that the right coach can get this squad into the playoffs. |

The biggest danger is bringing Berube back, and having the team get off to a slow start, and making the change in season. I'd rather a change be made in the off season when the talnet pool for a replacement is largest. |

Beube has been an AHL head coach, an assistant NHL coach, and an NHL head coach. He's obviously a competent eye. |

I agree...hope Hextall feels the same.
I don't love Brayden Schenn, but if you aren't gonna move him, somebody has to get more out of him consistently and be smart enough to give Couturier two healthy wingers at the same time |

Beats are all saying they'll be surprised if any decision on Berube is announced at the press conference.
They've been wrong before though. Several times in fact |

You do have to hand it to Hextall. Nothing seems to leak out of that organization since he's been in charge. |
