He could still do Berube, but it's clear to me that he thinks the roster needs to get the job done for the roles they have and that he isn't looking to give them an out by punting Berube - AllInForFlyers
Totally agree.
Was today the ONLY day this off season to fire Berube?
Like, if the guy Hextall has identified (whoever it is) becomes available in 2 weeks, can Hextall NOT call another press conference and fire Berube?
There are some coaches, whose situation is tenuous, that Hextall MIGHT like to hire. Why turf your guy when you don't have a replacement ready to hire?
Sounds smart to me. |

Not really though.. We are down on the year in points, a lot of players had down years..
It was a brutal trade then, and it definitely has looked as bad if not worse now that the season is over. - jak521
I'm not defending the trade at all. But scoring was down throughout the entire NHL so keep that in mind. |

He's playing the GM game. If he comes out and fires Berube even before the playoffs start, everyone knows the Flyers are in for a new coach. If he waits a bit, and depending on how some playoff teams do (St. Louis, Pittsburgh, Detroit), there might be some more coaches out there. - KGBflyers10
Exactly.. at least I certainly hope so! |

Hartnell wouldn't have had the same season here if was deployed as a bottom six forward. If Hartnell played his same role, B Schenn and Raffl wouldn't have had the years they had.
Edit: I hate the trade. I get getting rid of Hartnell while you can, but why take on Umberger. If we really just wanted to dump Hartnell, why not just take a 5th rounder back for him and let Columbus buy Umberger out. |

This pc is a waste of freakin time. All he's saying is "we'll see"... "maybe"... "yeah, he did good but I think he can do better"... "I haven't made a decision, so we'll see..."...

Hold a press conf today to essentially say nothing. Doesn't make much sense, but then again a lot of stuff this franchise does makes no sense. - PLindbergh31
The PC was just a regular end-of-season event for media to be able to ask questions before everybody went their separate ways. Don't be let down by your own expectations. It would have been a totally different story if this PC had been announced out of the blue mid-season.

I still think Hexy fires Berube. With all of the good coaches that will be available this summer, I think it would be foolish not to. Only to realize early on next season that Berube needs to go. That being said who would you like to see coach the Flyers? Assuming Babcock is first on most people's list, including mine, who else?
For me, if Boston fires Claude Julien, I want him. The only person I don't want is Bylsma. I just don't think he's a good coach. |

Yeah, the trade for last season and the up coming season and probably the year after, since Umburger might still be around, was terrible. I don't think they accounted for Hartnell's leadership. I think they thought he "kept things light" in the locker room, but completely undervalued the fact that players followed his lead in playing loose and attacking aggressively, instead of waiting tentatively in on-ice situations.
Hexy clearly still values the future cap relief more than either player in the trade. |

I really don't think Babcock would come here, regardless of money. I'm on the boat that believes he would want much more control over his roster than what he'd have here.
That being said, I wouldn't be opposed to Julien or McClellan, personally. Or go after a guy like Blashill... |

Lip service really. Didn't he also say he has zero interest in buying out Lecavalier? What's the other option? Hire a hitman? - PLindbergh31
The Lecavalier situation is a tough one. If they fired Berube, it'd be a win in Lecavalier's eyes, thus leading him to want to stick around. Do you really want to give an under-performing (although potentially under-utilized) player who calls out your coach and his decisions a win like that? Kinda like letting the inmates run the asylum.
I say they figure out how to fix that situation before dealing with anything else. Hopefully someone will want him at half salary. If we can find any takers, keeping $2.5M on the books for 3 more years is much better than paying the buyout. |

Babcock or Julien would be clear cut upgrades.
Bylsma couldn't control his bench vs Flyers in recent years and didn't help the US Olympic team either. |
