I really find it odd that Hextall has voiced that he does not want Mason participating internationally for Canada now to allow his knee to heal. - JFlyers00
Why do you find that odd?
Team Canada is not Steve Mason's employer. |

I find it refreshing.
Were I an owner or GM I'd do everything I could possibly do to prevent my players from participating in anything other than NHL games. |

It's an HB staple. Something most of us have been guilty of at one time or another. - MJL
True. It's the sustained effort that some of these folks put into it that has me shaking my head sometimes. |

If he thinks he needs to rest his knee, that should of started at least when they were officially eliminated from playoff contention. |

Everyone knows he wasn't 100% at pretty much any time this season. Hextall wants him to have a proper off-season so he can be 100% for next season. There is no upside for Mason to be playing in wgaf tournaments. |

As Steve Mason's employer, I guess the Flyers' medical staff felt he was well enough to play in NHL games that they were paying him for. In the eyes of the Flyers, those games still mattered (even though most of us feel otherwise).
Playing in the World Championships is even less meaningful than the meaningless games the Flyers played after the Boston loss. |

The World Championships is huge overseas, but no one in North America cares for the most part. |

I didn't think it was as bad as Stone made it seem. Definitely a chop, but not suspension-worthy. |

Shane Doan does, because it's the only hockey he historical plays in April and May. |

Didn't see it. I'm sick and went to bed around 8:30, I've only seen the highlights. |

All players by the end of the season have some sort of issue. Bellemare is getting shoulder surgery. Why aren't you asking about them not sitting him?
Yes they want Mason to rest. That's because they want him ready for an NHL season and to try and win the Stanley cup. The Flyers get no reward for what team Canada does.
I am pretty sure they probably even said to Jake they wouldn't mind if he rested since he played a full season. None of these teams really want any of their players paying for fear something dumb happens. |

The difference between the Flyers and Rangers is purely effort - PhillySportsGuy
Well duh, if they all just worked harder they'd would have morphed into the 85-86 Edmonton Oilers.
This is known, sayeth the great hockey sage Craig Berube
